First Look at New Hogwarts Set for Harry Potter TV Reboot Has Been Revealed
The magical world of Harry Potter is officially coming back, this time as a TV series. And thanks to some new set photos, fans are now getting a sneak peek at what the new version of Hogwarts will look like.
The upcoming show is a full reboot of the original books and movies. It’s being made for HBO, after originally being announced for Max. Warner Bros. is planning a much longer, more detailed adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series, with each season focusing on one book.
The new series was first announced back in April 2023, and it’s expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
Even though the cast was just confirmed in April and May of this year, work on the set has been underway for a while now. Instagram user victoria-maclean recently visited the studio and managed to get a glimpse through a small hole in the wall of the construction area. What she saw was the beginnings of a brand-new Great Hall.
The space is still under construction, but the photos show large arches and a huge physical structure. Unlike many modern productions that rely heavily on green screens and visual effects, it looks like the new Hogwarts is being built using mostly practical sets. That means real walls, real props, and actual rooms, not just computer-generated backgrounds.
Maclean also mentioned that Privet Drive is being rebuilt at another part of the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, though she didn’t get footage of that area.
The reboot has been in the works for a few years. Talks about a new series reportedly started back in January 2021, when Warner Bros. began looking at ideas for TV projects set in the wizarding world. In May 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav even met with J.K. Rowling to talk about bringing Harry Potter back in a new way.
When the reboot was finally announced in 2023, Rowling said she was excited to help bring the books to life again. “I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” she said.
Earlier this year, more big names joined the project. On June 26, 2024, Francesca Gardiner was announced as the showrunner, and Mark Mylod was brought on as a director and executive producer. David Heyman, who worked on the original movies, is also returning to help produce the show.
The main cast was finally revealed in spring 2025. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will be Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will step into the role of Ron Weasley.
With the first real look at the set now making its way online, excitement is starting to grow again. This reboot is promising to stay true to the original books but also dig deeper into the characters and story in ways the movies didn’t have time for. From the looks of the new Hogwarts, the team behind the show is taking that promise seriously.
