‘Werwulf’ Finds Its Stars As Robert Egger’s Latest Production Gets Exciting Updates
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are reportedly set to team up again with director Robert Eggers for his next movie, according to Nexus Point News. The new film is called Werwulf and will be a dark werewolf horror story set in 13th-century England. It will reportedly feature Old English dialogue to match the period setting. Focus Features will release the movie.
Sources say Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the werewolf himself, while Lily-Rose Depp is expected to play his wife. The story is said to include witchcraft elements and will apparently be one of Eggers’ bloodiest films so far.
Filming is planned to start this September. Eggers has written the script with Sjón, who worked with him on The Northman. Both Eggers and Sjón will be producing the film as well.
Werwulf was first revealed in January 2025, not long after Eggers released his vampire movie Nosferatu. That film also starred Taylor-Johnson and Depp, which means Werwulf will mark a reunion for the three. While plot details are mostly secret, the movie is described as a fresh spin on werewolf horror with an old historical backdrop.
Robert Eggers made his name with A24’s The Witch, which launched Anya Taylor-Joy’s career. After that, he directed The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu, all known for their historical settings and eerie atmosphere. Eggers isn’t slowing down either. He’s also working on a sequel to the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth with Sjón and is writing a new version of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros. Sources say Willem Dafoe is being considered to play Scrooge in that project.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is coming off his role in 28 Years Later and also starred in Nosferatu as Friedrich Harding. He’s known for Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bullet Train, Godzilla, and Nocturnal Animals. Lily-Rose Depp recently played Ellen Hutter in Nosferatu and is known for The Idol, The King, and Voyagers.
