The return of Wednesday has the numbers to back up its return to Netflix. According to Samba TV, Wednesday Season 2 pulled in 2.7 million U.S. households in just its first five days on Netflix, a 6% jump from the already huge debut of Season 1. That’s a big deal for a show that’s been off the air for nearly three years, showing fans couldn’t wait to dive back into Wednesday Addams’ spooky world.

The show was since the beginning already creating a stir. Data from Whip Media, collected through TV Time users, showed Wednesday had the second-most pre-release followers of any Netflix original, only trailing The Witcher. When it finally premiered, it shot to the top spot on Netflix in 83 countries, per Netflix’s own data. The first season was no slouch either, racking up 341 million hours watched in its first week back in November 2022, beating Stranger Things 4’s 335 million hours to claim the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language Netflix series.

Nielsen Media Research reported that Wednesday Season 1 hit 6 billion minutes watched in its debut week, making it the second-biggest streaming week ever recorded. By December 2022, it had reached 150 million households and crossed 1 billion viewing hours, becoming Netflix’s second-most watched English-language series ever.

Season 2 is keeping the momentum going strong. Critics and fans are loving the new episodes, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an 82% approval rating based on 68 reviews. The site’s critics consensus says, “Wednesday’s second season smartly opens up to include more of the whole Addams clan, backing up Jenna Ortega’s lovably heartless teenager with an ookier and spookier ensemble.”

On Metacritic, the season scored a 65 out of 100 based on 26 reviews, which means it’s getting generally good feedback. The show’s mix of dark humor, mystery, and Jenna Ortega’s deadpan charm as Wednesday Addams is clearly still a winning formula.

With its killer viewership numbers and glowing reviews, Wednesday Season 2 is proving it’s not just living up to the hype but exceeding it, cementing its place as one of Netflix’s biggest hits.
