KPop Demon Hunters has taken Netflix by storm and is now the fourth most-watched movie of all time on the platform. According to Netflix, the animated film has been steadily climbing the charts since its release on June 20, 2025. Its mix of K-pop music, vibrant animation, and exciting action has captured viewers all over the world.

In its first week, KPop Demon Hunters racked up 9.2 million views, landing it in second place on Netflix’s weekly charts. Since then, it hasn’t slowed down. The movie has seen six straight weeks with more than 20 million views each. Week two brought 24.2 million views, week three 22.7 million, week four 24.2 million again, week five 25.8 million, and weeks six and seven both had 26.3 million views. Altogether, the movie has been watched 158.8 million times so far.

KPop Demon Hunters has been either the first or second most-streamed movie on Netflix every week since its release.

Sources predict that it will surpass Red Notice, which has held the record for the most-watched Netflix original for over four years, within the next few weeks. The film still needs around 46.3 million more views to take the top spot. Netflix already confirmed that KPop Demon Hunters is the most-watched original animated film of all time on the platform.

The movie is a 2025 American animated musical urban fantasy produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released on Netflix. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the story was co-written by them along with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.

The film stars voices like Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The story follows a K-pop girl group, Huntr/x, who secretly work as demon hunters. They face off against a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, whose members are demons.

The film was inspired by director Maggie Kang’s Korean heritage. She wanted to blend mythology, demonology, and K-pop to create a unique story with a strong cultural feel. Sony Pictures Animation began production in 2021, and the animation, handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks, was influenced by music videos, concert lighting, anime, and Korean dramas.

The soundtrack features original songs, and the score was composed by Marcelo Zarvos.

Critics have loved the movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, 97% of 60 reviews were positive. The site wrote, “Animated with infectious energy and vibrant colors, KPop Demon Hunters is jaunty family entertainment with a terrific soundtrack to boot.” Metacritic gave the film a 76 out of 100 based on six reviews, calling it “generally favorable.”

KPop Demon Hunters continues to dominate Netflix, and fans are eagerly watching to see if it will claim the top spot as the most-watched Netflix original ever.
