Netflix Reveals First Look at Season 2 of Beloved Samurai Action Series
Netflix’s hit animated samurai series Blue Eye Samurai is coming back with a second season, and fans got their first glimpse of what’s ahead through a new poster.
The show, set in 17th-century Japan, follows Mizu, a half-Japanese, half-white female warrior on a mission of revenge. In season one, she disguised herself as a man to track down four white men who illegally stayed in Japan after the country closed its borders. Her journey led her to the Irish smuggler Abijah Fowler, played by Kenneth Branagh, and ended with her setting sail for London to find the remaining targets.
According to sources, season two will expand her world and present new challenges for the swordswoman, with a planned release in 2026.

Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, grew up facing discrimination as a mixed-race child. Forced by her mother to hide her identity, she carries on her disguise into adulthood to pursue revenge.
George Takei voices Seki, a tutor who supports Princess Akemi, while Masi Oka plays Ringo, a cheerful, handless cook who becomes an unlikely ally to Mizu. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa voices Master Eiji, a blind swordsmith who raised Mizu and earned her deep respect.
Brenda Song is Princess Akemi, a strong-willed daughter of a wealthy lord who wants freedom from her father’s control. Darren Barnet voices Taigen, a skilled swordsman with a personal grudge against Mizu, and Randall Park plays Heiji Shindo, Fowler’s assistant.
Kenneth Branagh’s Abijah Fowler is a cunning Irish smuggler secretly working against Japan’s Sakoku policies, hoping to overthrow the Shogun.
The second season will consist of six episodes, with fight scenes staged using live-action stunt references to make the action more realistic, according to producer Jane Wu. John Aoshima is confirmed to direct at least one episode. The creators have planned a three-season arc to complete the story.
The series has been praised by critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 97% rating, saying, “Visually dazzling while paying deft attention to character, Blue Eye Samurai is a masterfully rendered animated adventure.”
