The Running Man is a dystopian action thriller that Edgar Wright co-wrote, produced, and directed. The movie is based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King, written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman.

This marks the second time the story has been adapted for the screen, following the 1987 version. The cast is star-studded, featuring Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin, among others. Paramount Pictures is set to release the film on November 14, 2025.

The story of The Running Man is intense and simple to understand. A man, called “The Runner,” is chased across the world by deadly Hunters while participating in a violent gameshow.

To win the grand prize of 1 billion dollars, he must survive for 30 days. Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, the Runner. Josh Brolin stars as Dan Killian, the producer of the show, and Colman Domingo is Bobby Thompson, the show’s host.

Jayme Lawson plays Sheila Richards, Ben’s wife, while Michael Cera takes on the role of Elton Parrakis, a rebel who helps Ben. Emilia Jones stars as Amelia Williams, a civilian caught up in the chaos. Lee Pace described his role, saying, “I play Evan McCone, the head of the Hunters. He’s tough and relentless, and he’s going after the Runner at all costs.”

Filming began in the United Kingdom on November 4, 2024, with locations in London and at least one week spent shooting an action sequence at Wembley Stadium. The shoot wrapped on March 28, 2025. Paul Machliss edited the film, marking his fifth collaboration with Wright. Visual effects were handled by Industrial Light & Magic.

The first trailer dropped on July 1, 2025, featuring a remix of Underdog by Sly and the Family Stone. To promote it, Glen Powell teamed up with social media influencer Ashton Hall in a “morning routine” video, which ended with Hall watching the trailer in a private theater.

The film’s release date went through several changes. It was originally set for November 21, 2025, then moved up to November 7, and finally set for November 14 to avoid clashing with Predator: Badlands.
