Marvel Comics is preparing a major new event called Avengers: Armageddon, a five-issue series that sets up a big shift for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

According to Marvel Comics announcements and preview materials, the story is written by Chip Zdarsky, known for his work on Daredevil (2019), with artwork by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, who previously worked on Doomed 2099 (2025) and Captain America (2025).

The event continues storylines that have been building across recent Marvel titles, especially One World Under Doom (2025) and Captain America (2025). It also connects to Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon (2026), pulling different heroes and teams into one large crossover. Marvel describes it as a turning point for the Avengers, one that will lead to a clear “before and after” moment in the Marvel Universe.

The story begins in Latveria, where Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also known as the Red Hulk, takes control of the region after the fall of Doctor Doom’s influence. From there, Ross expands his reach and sets off a global crisis. The Avengers respond, but the conflict quickly escalates into something far larger than a single team can handle.

A key part of the conflict comes from a dangerous advantage Red Hulk gains early on. He discovers or uses a machine left behind by Doom that allows him to see possible futures. This gives him a major edge over Earth’s heroes, including Iron Man, Captain Marvel, the Fantastic Four, and Wolverine, who all join the fight against him. According to Marvel’s preview, the heroes are forced to deal with an enemy who can anticipate their moves before they happen.

Marvel’s materials also tease the introduction of a new character during the crisis, someone with extremely powerful abilities who may be the only chance of stopping Red Hulk’s takeover. However, this new hero comes with a cost that could permanently change how the world sees the Avengers. The identity of this character is being kept secret for now.

In Avengers: Armageddon #1, the fallout from recent events shows Steve Rogers in a coma and Red Hulk continuing his rise in power. With the Avengers gathering for a full-scale response, the story builds toward a massive confrontation that could reshape the entire Marvel Universe.

Marvel Comics describes the event as a global war involving nearly every major hero group, with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wolverine, and others forced into the same battlefield. The company also teases that not all heroes will survive the conflict, and that the outcome will define a new era for the Avengers moving forward.
