Barbie Ferreira Gets Honest About What Led to Her ‘Euphoria’ Exit
Barbie Ferreira is speaking openly about why she decided to leave Euphoria and says the truth was far less dramatic than many people believed. During an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, released on April 14, the actress explained that her exit came after a long process of reflection and honest talks about her future on the show.
Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, said there was no major fight or sudden fallout behind the scenes. Instead, she described it as a gradual decision that happened over time. According to her, everyone involved started to realize that her character no longer had a clear direction in the story.
She said, In fact, it was kind of the opposite of dramatic, where it was a long process of being like, I don’t know if this is it for me. Kat became a fan favorite during the first season of Euphoria, with many viewers connecting to her confidence journey and personal struggles.
But Ferreira explained that later on, she felt the character was losing the identity that made her stand out in the beginning. As time went on, she felt more like a background figure than someone with an important story to tell. That played a big part in her decision to move on.
Ferreira also made it clear that being part of a huge hit series was not enough if she did not feel creatively fulfilled. She said she would rather work on smaller projects where she could truly act and grow. She shared, The thing is, I don’t need to be on the biggest TV show on earth if I’m not, like, acting, you know?
The actress added that she would choose an independent movie over spending months in a role that no longer challenged her. For Ferreira, it became more important to focus on projects that felt meaningful and exciting.
Looking back, she said she is proud of the time she spent on Euphoria and grateful for the four years she had with the character. At the same time, she knew it was the right moment to take her career in a different direction.
She explained, At the end of the day, I was like, I believe in myself as an actress. And I want to see my career look a little differently than this. Ferreira also said the decision was best for both herself and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, as they both understood it was time to close that chapter.
Now she is focusing on film roles. She recently appeared in the horror movie Faces of Death alongside Dacre Montgomery and Charli xcx. She is also starring in the indie romantic comedy Mile End Kicks. With new projects ahead, Ferreira seems confident in the path she chose after leaving television behind.
