After Warner Bros. spent years trying to find the right course for the DC Extended Universe, new leadership with WBD’s CEO David Zaslav decided to pull the plug and hire James Gunn as Peter Safran to develop a new cinematic universe from scratch. Well, almost. The upcoming DCU will keep some actors and continue some storylines from the DCEU, mainly from James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker.’

The majority of other things in DCU will be rebooted, new actors will play Batman and Superman, and some new characters and superhero teams will be introduced. We still remember how the ‘Black Adam’ movie introduced the Justice Society of America into the DCEU, but following the movie’s commercial flop, it doesn’t seem we’ll watch Black Adam and the JSA in DCU anytime soon, or at least not as they were depicted in ‘Black Adam.’ Still, one ‘Black Adam’ star recently revealed he’d be ready to reprise his role in DCU if given the opportunity.

Aldis Hodge reveals he wants to play Hawkman again!

Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2007, and after spending more than a decade in development hell, the movie was finally released in 2022. The movie also introduced the Justice Society of America, a superhero team consisting of Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher.

Although the main star, Dwayne Johnson, hoped this movie would kick off a new franchise for him, the commercial disappointment ensured that we most likely won’t see him play Black Adam in DCU, and the same goes for the members of the JSA. However, while speaking with ComicBook at the recent premiere of Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ the Hawkman star Aldis Hodge revealed he would like to play Hawkman again if James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, would have him.

“I ain’t got the James Gunn yet. I ain’t got the James yet, but you know, we’ll see. I mean, if they get back around to it, I’m ready, James.”

Gunn and Safran’s DCU will start a new era for DC movies on both big and small screens. The first DCU project will be the animated series ‘Creature Commandos,’ which will premiere next year on Max, and the franchise’s big-screen debut will be in July 2025 with ‘Superman: Legacy,’ written and directed by Gunn. While Gunn confirmed that some DCEU actors would continue to play their roles in DCU, there was never a word that he had some plan for the JSA.

‘Black Adam’ is now streaming on MAX.
