Coincidence? Zack Snyder Drops Epic ‘League United’ Post Amid Massive Paramount-WBD Merger News
Zack Snyder has impeccable timing, or he simply knows things the rest of us do not. On the same day the U.S. Department of Justice approved Paramount’s landmark acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the director of ‘Justice League‘ posted an image of the full Justice League lineup on his Instagram, and then followed it with an image of Man of Steel. This has sent fans into overdrive.
Antitrust regulators at the Justice Department approved Paramount Skydance’s deal to buy Warner Bros. on June 12. The approval came without requiring any divestitures, behavioral remedies, or concessions from Paramount, with the DOJ concluding that the transaction was not likely to result in harm to competition or American consumers across streaming, linear TV, or theatrical film distribution.
The merger, announced in late February, values Warner Bros. Discovery at an enterprise value of $110 billion and is expected to close in Q3 of this year. The deal will see Paramount, the owner of CBS and Paramount+, absorb the much larger Warner, which includes HBO, CNN, and the Warner Bros. movie studio, placing the combined entity under media mogul David Ellison’s leadership.
What the merger means for DC is the question that has the internet buzzing. With the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery deal in motion and the SnyderVerse return in active discussion, including the possibility of a Justice League finale, Snyder posting the full League with the caption “The League United” is the kind of gesture that reads as more than nostalgia to fans closely watching the situation.

Snyder has been sharing behind-the-scenes photos and content from his DC films at an increasing pace, with fans noting that he has never previously posted so many DC images in such a short span of time. Snyder himself has confirmed that his ‘Justice League’ films will co-exist with James Gunn’s newly established DC Universe, which launched theatrically with ‘Superman’ starring David Corenswet and grossed $618.7 million worldwide.
State attorneys general may still file a lawsuit challenging the merger on antitrust grounds, with California’s Attorney General stating the deal remains under investigation by his office. The European Commission is also examining the deal under the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation, given the approximately $24 billion being fronted for the takeover by the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. So the path to closing is not entirely clear yet.
Still, none of that uncertainty seems to be slowing Snyder down. Whether the post is a calculated tease or simply an anniversary celebration from a filmmaker who knows his fanbase hangs on every upload, the timing could not have been more electric. The SnyderVerse faithful are watching closely, and right now the phrase “The League United” feels like it carries more weight than any two words have in quite some time.
