We know that the Sith Lords are incredibly powerful and can defeat multiple Jedi all at once. This was evident in the likes of Darth Vader and Count Dooku, who were both the last apprentices of Palpatine during his lifetime as a Sith Lord. Palpatine chose well because both Vader and Dooku were incredibly skilled and powerful in the Force. But who would win in a fight between Darth Vader and Count Dooku?

Darth Vader would win in a fight against Count Dooku. Before falling to the dark side, Anakin Skywalker defeated and killed Dooku after tapping into his inner rage and darkness. He only became stronger in the Force and angrier as a Sith Lord. That means that Vader has always been stronger than Dooku.

If Darth Vader wasn’t stronger than Count Dooku, Palpatine wouldn’t have used him as a replacement for the older Sith Lord. Vader’s potential and anger were well beyond Dooku’s own powers, and that was why he was the perfect apprentice for Palpatine, who only wanted to use Vader for his own benefit. Now, let’s look at this battle in greater detail.

Physical attributes

When he was still Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader was incredibly nimble and quick as a combatant. His footwork was insane, and he had flashy and quick moves that allowed him to overwhelm different opponents.

But when he lost his limbs and got his body burned, he became slower because of his cybernetic parts. Nevertheless, Vader had more power in his attacks because of his cybernetic enhancements.

Count Dooku may have been old during the Clone Wars, but he was extremely nimble for his old age. He surely would have been stronger and faster back when he was younger, and we saw that during the events of ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.’

In that regard, there’s a good reason to believe that he was one of the fastest and nimblest Jedi during his prime, but we know that he was slower and weaker in his 80s during the Clone Wars.

We could never know how fast and strong Dooku was in his prime, but we are sure that Darth Vader’s physical attributes allowed him to easily overwhelm Jedi Knights and Masters alike.

Fighting skills

Darth Vader’s cybernetic parts changed his fighting style a bit, but he was still a master of Form V: Djem So as a lightsaber combatant. This allowed him to overwhelm a lot of different Jedi during the Imperial era, as his mastery over his swordsmanship was beyond the skills of most Jedi Knights and Masters at that time.

He was so skilled as a swordsman that he could match the prowess of great combatants like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cere Junda. On top of that, the Inquisitors all feared his abilities as a lightsaber duelist.

During his prime, Count Dooku was regarded as one of the best lightsaber duelists and was right up there with the likes of Yoda and Mace Windu in terms of his skills.

He excelled in Form II: Makashi, a lightsaber combat form that focuses on fencing and ballet-like fighting style incorporating smaller and more efficient strikes meant to disarm opponents. Makashi was a very accurate and precise style that allowed Dooku to find holes in defense of Obi-Wan’s Form III: Soresu.

Dooku was one of the greatest duelists of his era and could face and survive a duel against Yoda. However, Darth Vader defeated him in their final duel.

Force powers

Anakin was born with the highest potential in the Force, but he was never able to reach his full potential when he lost his limbs and got his body burned. Despite that, Darth Vader relied on his anger and pain as his source of strength, and he could bring down entire rooms with his incredible control over the Force.

Vader was a master of telekinesis and could easily block lightsaber attacks and deflect blaster bolts with nothing but his control over the Force.

Count Dooku was already incredibly gifted in the Force when he was a Jedi, but he only became more powerful after turning to the dark side. This allowed him to gain access to Force Lightning, which was so powerful under his command that he was probably second only to Palpatine in using this skill.

On top of that, he went toe-to-toe with Yoda in ‘Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones’ in using the Force.

This one is too close to call because Dooku can use Force Lightning, the only power that Darth Vader is weak against because of his cybernetic parts. But Vader is powerful enough to block Dooku’s Force powers. That’s why we call this a tie.

Experience

Darth Vader was in his 40s at the time of his death, but he experienced plenty of battles during his lifetime. He was a veteran of the Clone Wars and was almost always on the battlefield at that time.

Vader also fought and killed plenty of Jedi during the events of Order 66 and the Imperial era. And the Jedi he faced were not too shabby, as he was responsible for killing the likes of Cere Junda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Jocasta Nu, among others.

The thing about Dooku is that he was already in his 80s at the time of his death, which means that he faced his own fair share of battles during his lifetime.

He must have fought in many smaller wars as a Jedi and was a veteran of many battles before leaving the Jedi Order. Dooku also participated in the Clone Wars, where he fought the likes of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Asajj Ventress.

Even though Vader has had his fair share of battles, nothing beats the experience and wisdom of eight decades of living in a chaotic galaxy.

Feats

Darth Vader’s feats are legendary among the Sith Lords of his time because he was the one that was responsible for the deaths of countless Jedi Knights and Masters. He killed Padawans, Knights, and Masters after storming the Jedi Temple during Order 66. Vader also continued to hunt down and kill Jedi during the reign of the Empire.

Of course, his best kills included the likes of Count Dooku, Cere Junda, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Count Dooku’s feats were nothing short of impressive as well, especially if you look at the fact that he took on a younger Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at the same time during the start of the Clone Wars.

He also took on Yoda in a fight that ended in a stalemate. Of course, he easily took on Savage Opress and Asajj Ventress together simultaneously and was winning before Opress went rogue.

Dooku’s feats were impressive, but let’s not forget that Anakin defeated him in a fair duel after tapping into the dark side. Vader, with all of his rage and pent-up emotions, should be able to handle him in a fight.

Darth Vader vs. Count Dooku: Who wins?

There is no doubting the fact that Count Dooku was a great duelist and was an even more fearsome Sith Lord because of his strength in the Force. But Darth Vader was chosen as his replacement for a good reason, as he was simply stronger than him. Before completely tapping into his rage, Anakin was already strong enough to overwhelm Dooku. And it goes without saying that an angrier Darth Vader should be able to defeat Count Dooku once more if given a chance to fight him again.
