The Fall of 2023 is upon us, which means we’re gearing up for the last projects that the superhero genre will offer us by the end of this year. Both Marvel and DC have something to offer on big and small screens. DC has ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and the final episodes of ‘Doom Patrol’ to release. On the other hand, Marvel Studios is set to release the second season of ‘Loki,’ which begins next week, ‘LEGO® Avengers’ special and ‘What If…?’ Season 2 on Disney+. The last cinematic MCU event of the year, ‘The Marvels,’ premieres in theaters on November 10.

As the year is nearing its end, the fans are already looking forward to what 2024 will offer us regarding superhero content. However, the recently ended WGA strike and still ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike mean that the current release schedule for the next year can’t be taken for granted, not just regarding the superhero genre, but entirely. But, if we look at the current release schedule, the first MCU project in 2024 should be ‘Echo,’ the upcoming spin-off to 2021’s ‘Hawkeye’ series, in which Alaqua Cox reprises the role of Maya Lopez.

Marvel Studios reveals official description for the first episode of ‘Echo’

The ‘Echo’ series was initially announced to premiere in late November this year, with all of the episodes released simultaneously, which has been uncommon for Marvel Studios’ projects on Disney+. Some fans are still wondering what made Echo worthy of having her own spin-off because she was only a supporting antagonist in Hawkeye, and her story could’ve been easily continued in the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ since ‘Echo’ is primarily associated with Daredevil in the source material.

Instead, Echo will have her own series in which Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox will reprise their roles as Kingpin and Matt Murdock, respectively, before appearing in ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which was recently delayed indefinitely due to the strikes. So after Echo, we’ll wait a while to see them again.

Now, Marvel Studios revealed the official description of the first episode of ‘Echo’ in the U.S. Copyright Catalog. The description already teases Kingpin’s role in the series.

“Marvel Studios presents “Echo” in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), aka Kingpin. In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles.”

‘Echo’: Marvel Series Will Reportedly Be One Episode Shorter Than Previously Announced

In the ‘Hawkeye’ series finale, which serves as a prelude to ‘Echo,’ Maya Lopez and Kingpin meet face-to-face after she discovers that he orchestrated the murder of her father, for which she initially sought revenge against Ronin. Maya seemingly shot Kingpin, but that was shown off-screen, which already means that Kingpin survived that encounter. After all, we knew that he was going to return all along. What new adventures are awaiting for Alaqua Cox’s MCU character? That’s the answer the upcoming series will give us.

Created by Marion Dayre, ‘Echo’ is currently set to premiere sometime in January 2024 exclusively on Disney+.
