Elizabeth Olsen Sparks ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Return Rumors After Reported London Sighting
Marvel Studios has built an entire promotional playbook around secrecy, and nowhere is that more obvious than with the sprawling ensemble casts being assembled for its next two Avengers films. Every trailer drop and every stray airport sighting gets picked apart by fans hunting for clues about who’s actually walking through Battleworld when the cameras finally roll.
That environment has made even the smallest detail feel like a potential bombshell, especially when it involves characters whose fates remain genuinely unresolved. Few MCU storylines have stayed murkier than the one left behind by Wanda Maximoff, whose apparent death in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ has never been fully addressed on screen.
Now that uncertainty has fans buzzing again. Reports have surfaced online claiming Elizabeth Olsen was recently spotted on a flight to London, with speculation quickly pointing toward ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which is expected to begin filming there soon.
It’s worth noting upfront that this claim originates from social media chatter rather than any official confirmation from Marvel Studios, Olsen, or her representatives. Still, the timing lines up with growing anticipation around Secret Wars, which follows ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as the second half of the Russo brothers’ back-to-back Avengers double feature.
Olsen’s own comments over the past year and a half have done little to settle the debate. Back when Doomsday was first gearing up for production, she told The Hollywood Reporter she had no plans to extend her stay in London and was instead heading home to film a pilot for FX.
That statement seemed fairly definitive at the time, but Marvel actors have a long track record of misdirection when it comes to guarding spoilers. More recently, when pressed again about her status, Olsen offered a far less certain response.
Speaking about her knowledge of the upcoming films, she said, “I know nothing” when discussing what she knew about Doomsday, a comment she made during a public appearance that was reported by Deadline. She went on to say she was similarly unaware of specifics surrounding ‘Secret Wars,’ further muddying whether her earlier denial still holds up.
Complicating things further is the fact that Olsen wasn’t included among the previously reported cast members expected to appear in ‘Secret Wars.’ That lineup reportedly includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Hayley Atwell, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Sadie Sink.
That absence hasn’t stopped the character’s popularity from keeping the speculation alive. Wanda Maximoff has remained one of the most requested returns among fans since her seemingly final scene in ‘Multiverse of Madness,’ and Olsen has previously said she would welcome the chance to revisit the role if Marvel came calling.
Whether this latest London rumor turns into an actual confirmation remains to be seen, and it wouldn’t be the first time a casting whisper has fizzled out before an official reveal. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, ahead of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ the following year, giving Marvel plenty of time to either confirm or quietly dismiss the growing chatter.
For now, fans are left parsing airport sightings and secondhand social posts for any sign that Scarlet Witch might be headed back into the fold. Given how tightly Marvel has guarded details on both films, an official answer likely won’t arrive until the studio is ready to make it official on its own terms.
Do you think Elizabeth Olsen will return as Scarlet Witch in 'Avengers: Secret Wars'?
