Every summer seems to produce at least one actor who quietly slips into the spotlight, and this year that distinction belongs to a face many viewers might not immediately recognize by name. She’s spent the last few years popping up in acclaimed projects without ever fully stepping into the lead.

That’s changed dramatically over the past few weeks. A new Prime Video coming-of-age drama has given her the platform to finally headline a project, and audiences are taking notice in a big way.

The actress in question is 24-year-old Ella Rubin, who stars as Annie Jacobson in Megan Park’s ‘Sterling Point,’ which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 5. The show follows Annie’s life after she and her twin brother inherit their mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada, unearthing new friendships, budding romances, and long-buried family secrets along the way.

Rubin was born and raised on New York’s Upper West Side, training at the Professional Children’s School, whose alumni include Scarlett Johansson and Sarah Jessica Parker. Before landing this leading role, she built a steady résumé of supporting parts, appearing in the Gossip Girl reboot, ‘The Girl From Plainville,’ ‘The Idea of You’ opposite Anne Hathaway, and Sean Baker’s Oscar-winning ‘Anora.’

‘Sterling Point’ marks the first time Rubin has carried a series as its lead, and the shift hasn’t gone unnoticed by the people who worked closely with her. Series creator Megan Park has been especially vocal about Rubin’s potential, telling W Magazine that the actress is “one of those rare actors who is so achingly real and nuanced in what she brings to her characters and performances, it’s impossible not to feel something while watching her.”

Park didn’t stop there, adding that she believes Rubin is destined for major stardom, saying she’ll “be one of the biggest movie stars in the world one day” and that she “can’t wait to watch her career explode.”

Rubin has spoken about the challenges of stepping into a role that requires carrying real emotional weight without losing her sense of authenticity. Reflecting on shaping her character’s backstory, she told W that she had to completely reorient her understanding of Annie once production details shifted, noting she reworked the character’s history down to which New York neighborhood she was supposed to be from.

The actress also touched on what it meant to finally take on a lead role after years of steady supporting work. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, she described how having agency on set changed her experience playing a teenager as an adult actor, since it’s easy for young performers to “end up feeling a little bit infantilized” without that kind of trust from the production.

Beyond her performance, Rubin has also been building a presence in fashion circles. She has a growing relationship with Louis Vuitton, having walked her first-ever runway show for the brand’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection this past May before repping the label again at the ‘Sterling Point’ premiere in New York City.

The show itself arrives from an accomplished creative team, with Park serving as creator alongside showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, produced through Fake Empire and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment. The ensemble cast includes Amélie Hoeferle, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Keen Ruffalo, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Missi Pyle, but it’s Rubin’s performance that critics and fans alike have singled out as the show’s driving force.

Given how quickly ‘Sterling Point’ has become appointment viewing, it’s easy to see why Rubin’s name is suddenly everywhere. Between her established film credits and now a leading television role backed by serious industry buzz, she has all the makings of the kind of breakout Hollywood loves to champion.

For an actress who spent years quietly stacking up credits in acclaimed ensembles, the leap to leading lady feels less like a lucky break and more like the natural next step in a career that’s been building toward this moment. Whether ‘Sterling Point’ gets a second season or not, it’s clear Rubin’s career trajectory is only pointing upward from here.
