‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Gets a Release Window
Euphoria fans can expect the series to return in the spring, though an exact premiere date for Season 3 has not yet been confirmed, HBO’s Casey Bloys says.
The show’s second season ran from January 9 to February 27, 2022, and was met with mostly positive reviews. Critics praised the performances and visuals, though some criticized the pacing and characterization.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 holds a 78% score from 113 reviews, with the site noting, “As willfully provocative as ever in its second season, Euphoria still isn’t for all tastes—but when its addictive ingredients are mixed just right, the results remain intoxicating.”
Metacritic gave it a 74 out of 100. While Ben Travers of IndieWire criticized the sexual content, he highlighted Zendaya’s work, writing, “After seven of the eight episodes, Season 2 is exactly what a drama seeking to spark conversation fears most: It’s skippable.” Rebecca Nicholson of The Guardian gave it two out of five, saying the season “leaned into its crueller instincts,” while Patrick Ryan of USA Today praised the cast but noted the show was less captivating when focusing away from Rue and Jules.
HBO renewed Euphoria for a third season in February 2022, and CEO Casey Bloys later said the series could continue beyond four seasons. Production for Season 3 was initially planned for late 2023, but several delays pushed filming back. The 2023 Hollywood labor disputes and the deaths of Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen disrupted plans. In February of this year, production officially began.
Series stars have commented on the uncertainty surrounding the third season. While Zendaya said she didn’t “really have much of an answer” about the timeline, co-star Domingo mentioned that creator Sam Levinson had “told me some of it, and it’s going to be groundbreaking.”
Series costume designer Heidi Bivens had previously noted that preparations were planned for mid-2023, and other cast members expressed confusion over delays, with Schafer telling Call Her Daddy, “The real tea is I have no f-king idea what’s going on” regarding production.
Despite the setbacks, HBO confirmed in May 2023 that Season 3 would premiere by 2025, and the series is now on track for a spring release. Fans can expect eight episodes when the new season finally arrives.
