If there’s one thing that we know about the world of Star Wars, fans can’t help but speculate regarding the different characters we’ve seen in the storyline. Fans love to create fictional stories related to some of the theories they have about the characters of this fictional universe. Jar Jar Binks, the most incompetent character in the storyline, is one of the characters fans seem to think could be a lot darker—a Sith Lord. So, why do fans think that Jar Jar could be a Sith Lord?

Fans think that Jar Jar Binks could have been a Sith Lord because he is far too incompetent to be true. It seems like he is portrayed to be too stupid and clumsy to be someone who is actually just stupid and clumsy. And on top of that, Jar Jar’s actions were important in the rise of the Empire.

The thing about Jar Jar is that there are a lot of different aspects about him that fans believe are too good to be simply coincidence. After all, the Sith Lords were known to be very clever, intelligent, and manipulative people who could have easily manipulated the people of the galaxy and the Jedi. So, with that said, let’s look at how fans were able to tie this all up with the possibility of Jar Jar Binks being a Sith Lord.

How Jar Jar contributed to Palpatine’s rise

When it comes to Star Wars or even the entire world of fiction, there aren’t many people who are as stupid and incompetent as Jar Jar Binks. Introduced in ‘Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace,’ Jar Jar was an exiled Gungan on Naboo as his people shunned and forced him to leave their city because he was too clumsy. And this became a common theme for him throughout his entire history as a Star Wars character.

Ever since his introduction, Jar Jar’s entire character revolved around him being stupid, incompetent, and downright clumsy. Still, he was also quite lucky as he contributed to the defeat of the Trade Federation on Naboo by allowing the people of Naboo and the Gungans to unite and form a peaceful alliance. The Gungans eventually chose him to represent them in their interests in the Galactic Senate, where he allied with Padmé Amidala and many other senators who preferred peace instead of war.

Nevertheless, in ‘Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones,’ Jar Jar was manipulated by Chancellor Palpatine into giving him emergency powers. Palpatine said that he wished that Padmé was there so that she could push the Senate into giving him emergency powers that he could use to create a Republic army. As such, willing to prove himself a competent Senator, Jar Jar was the one who proposed to give Palpatine emergency powers.

Of course, Palpatine abused his emergency powers as he used them to make the clone army legal. We know that the clones have inhibitor chips that compel them to kill the Jedi, and Palpatine uses this fact to initiate Order 66 to destroy the Jedi Order. Using the circumstances of the apparent “Jedi betrayal” and the victory over the Separatists, Palpatine reformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire, thus ensuring that he would rule for as long as he could. And it all stemmed from Binks calling the Senate to give Palpatine emergency powers.

Jar Jar is far too incompetent to be true

To that end, fans started to think that Jar Jar could have been in league with Palpatine the entire time and was a Sith Lord. After all, many things tied him to Palpatine’s rise as the emperor and the different tragedies that happened throughout the galaxy. On top of that, Jar Jar’s incompetence in many different things seems too good to be true.

In many ways, people easily forgive Jar Jar’s mistakes and faults because he is simply incompetent, dumb, stupid, and clumsy. Even though he was able to help the Jedi and the Republic a few times due to how clumsy and incompetent he is, his mistakes outweigh his contributions.

And for some fans, he is far too incompetent and stupid to be true, as it is possible that it was all just an act for Jar Jar to convince people that he doesn’t have anything to do with the dark side.

After all, the Sith Lords have always specialized in manipulation and cleverness. For thousands of years, the Sith used their cunning nature to deceive and manipulate people. In fact, they deceived the Jedi into thinking that they were extinct. On top of that, the Sith manipulated the events of the galaxy to eventually destroy the Jedi and bring about the rise of the Empire.

As such, fans think that Jar Jar’s incompetence and stupidity were all but an act that made it easier for him to fool the Jedi and the other people of the galaxy into thinking that his mistakes were simply products of his idiotic nature. And when he already had everyone fooled, it became easier for him to fulfill the plans of the Sith.

Why does Jar Jar have Sith eyes?

Another reason why some fans believe that Jar Jar was always a Sith Lord is the color of his eyes. We know that the Sith have yellow eyes, as this is one of the indications of their fall to the dark side. After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul, and the evil yellow eyes that the Sith often have reflect how their evil thoughts have already taken over their soul.

In Jar Jar’s case, however, his eyes are actually natural. All Gungans have eyes that are unique in terms of their color, and we’ve seen quite a few of them with yellow eyes. Two Gungans with yellow eyes include Jar Jar and Boss Nass.

As such, Jar Jar’s yellow eyes are not indicative of his fall to the dark side or his allegiance to the Sith because some Gungans also have yellow eyes. And that means that he doesn’t have Sith eyes but merely yellow eyes that he was born with.

What happened to Jar Jar Binks after ‘Revenge of the Sith’?

While some fans believe that Jar Jar Binks was always a Sith Lord, his life after the Empire’s rise was proof that he was never a Sith Lord. Of course, there’s also the Rule of Two, which would have prevented Binks from becoming a Sith Lord.

Nevertheless, after the rise of the Empire, Jar Jar continued to serve as a senator. There weren’t a lot of things told about his story during the time of the Empire, but he was one of the characters who survived the Imperial era and the Rebellion.

After the New Republic took over, Jar Jar became an outcast because some people believed that he was in league with Palpatine when he voted to give him emergency powers. In that regard, the popular belief was that he was plotting with the evil Sith Lord the entire time, even though he was simply manipulated.

As such, Jar Jar was ousted from his position as a senator and banished by the Gungans. He spent the rest of his days as a performer on the streets of the city of Theed on Naboo so that he could get by. The children loved his performances, but their parents hated him because they believed that he was a traitor who helped the rise of the Empire.

Jar Jar met an orphan named Mapo, who struggled to get adopted because he believed that he was an outcast. Believing that he found a friend and ally in Mapo, Jar Jar, and the orphan became friends and companions who lived and traveled together.
