‘Fantastic Four’: New Casting Additions Rumored for the Upcoming MCU Movie
Ever since Marvel Studios announced ‘Fantastic Four,’ a new movie that would introduce Marvel’s first family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s been so many rumors and news about its development. More of them were unofficial than official, but we still followed all of them closely, and we will continue to do so until Marvel Studios announces the official cast, which is, for Marvel fans, one of the most anticipated announcements at this moment.
The ‘Fantastic Four’ movie was first announced in December 2020, with Jon Watts (the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy starring Tom Holland) set to direct. However, one year later, after completing his work on ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ Watts announced his departure from the project, and Matt Shakman, who directed all nine episodes of the ‘WandaVision’ series, was hired to replace him.
At 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige announced the official release date, which was subsequently changed several times to May 2, 2025, when it’s currently set to release if there are not going to be more delays. Marvel Studios didn’t provide any official announcements about the actors that’ll play the members of Marvel’s first family, but there have been many rumors about that, and now we have the latest update. Keep in mind that none of these are official until Marvel Studios says so.
New ‘Fantastic Four’ casting announcements leaked!
A while ago, many rumors claimed that Marvel Studios hired Adam Driver and Margot Robbie to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ movie, with Paul Mescal reportedly set to play Johnny Storm/the Human Torch and Daveed Diggs as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
However, later reports claimed that the studio decided to reconsider that initially picked cast because A-list actors like Driver and Robbie are just too expensive, especially if the studio has plans for sequels and crossover movies in the franchise.
According to known insider Jeff Sneider, it’s all but confirmed that ‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning’ star Vanessa Kirby will take over the role of Sue Storm from Robbie, but it’s still unknown who’s going to be picked as Reed Richards. Some reports mentioned ‘House of the Dragon’ star Matt Smith, but Sneider said that’s unlikely.
Additionally, Sneider reported that Johnny Storm is set to be played by the ‘Stranger Things’ star Joseph Quinn, while the actor for The Thing has been picked, but it’s still unknown who that is. The mentioned insider also said that the studio is searching for a Latino actor to play Galactus, who will reportedly be the movie’s main villain, and that Ebon Moss-Bachrach has been cast in an undisclosed role, possibly Silver Surfer.
While tons of rumors and reports are spreading around social media, Marvel Studios is still silent regarding the official announcement. Previous reports mentioned that the studio decided to put the casting process on hold during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, so it only remains to be seen how truthful all these claims are.
‘Fantastic Four’ is currently set to be released on May 2, 2025.
