Finn Could Return: John Boyega Reportedly Discussing New ‘Star Wars’ Comeback
John Boyega may not be finished with Star Wars after all. A new report claims the actor has recently spoken with Lucasfilm about returning as Finn in a future project connected to the franchise.
The information comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who reported that discussions between Boyega and Lucasfilm have taken place. While no official announcement has been made, the report has quickly sparked speculation among fans about where Finn could appear next.
At the moment, Lucasfilm is going through major changes behind the scenes. Kathleen Kennedy is stepping away from her longtime leadership role at the studio, while Dave Filoni is becoming more involved in the creative direction of future Star Wars projects. Filoni already helped shape shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Clone Wars, and many fans see him as someone who understands the franchise better than previous leadership.
The report does not reveal exactly which project Boyega may return for. One possibility is the planned Rey Skywalker movie starring Daisy Ridley, which was first announced during Star Wars Celebration in 2023. That film is expected to focus on rebuilding the Jedi Order after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
Finn returning would make sense because the final sequel trilogy movie strongly hinted that the character was Force-sensitive. Many fans felt the storyline was never fully explored on screen.
Another possible option is the new trilogy reportedly being developed by Simon Kinberg. According to reports shared by SFFGazette, Dave Filoni is said to be very interested in that direction for the future of Star Wars.
Boyega’s possible return is especially interesting because of his complicated history with Disney and Lucasfilm after the sequel trilogy ended. Over the years, the actor openly criticized how Finn’s character was handled in the later films.
In a past interview with GQ, Boyega accused Disney of pushing diverse characters to the front during marketing campaigns but then giving them less importance in the actual movies.
He said, “What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side.”
Boyega also spoke about feeling disappointed with how Finn’s story developed after The Force Awakens. Many viewers believed Finn was originally being set up as a future Jedi or one of the franchise’s main heroes, but later films shifted focus elsewhere.
The actor later clarified that he had made peace with the situation and no longer held anger toward the franchise. Still, his comments created the impression that the relationship between him and Disney had become strained.
That is why reports about recent talks with Lucasfilm are getting so much attention online. If Boyega truly returns, it could signal a new direction for Star Wars under Dave Filoni’s leadership and possibly a chance to give Finn a bigger role than he had in the sequel trilogy.
