Gal Gadot Reveals ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Is Still in Development After All
Despite knowing that DC Extended Universe (DCEU) will conclude this year with ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and that James Gunn and Peter Safran’s soft-reboot cinematic universe, officially called DCU, will kick off in 2025 with Superman: Legacy, it appears that more of DCEU will stay in DCU than we initially thought.
It was previously revealed that Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck wouldn’t return as Superman and Batman anymore, although some characters and storylines from DCEU will continue in DCU. John Cena’s Peacemaker and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller are officially set to return in DCU, and it looks like Gal Gadot hasn’t said her last word as Wonder Woman either.
Gal Gadot says she isn’t done with Wonder Woman yet!
Gadot debuted as Wonder Woman in 2016’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ and she reprised the role in two ‘Wonder Woman’ movies and both versions of ‘Justice League.’ Earlier this year, she had cameo appearances in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ and ‘The Flash,‘ and many fans believed that was her last appearance as the most iconic comic book heroine of all time.
Last year, amid changes in the regime at DC Studios, it was reported that ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ which WB initially announced following the release of ‘WW84,’ was canceled because Gunn refused Patty Jenkins’ draft of the script. Gunn reportedly asked Jenkins to rewrite the screenplay, but she refused and abandoned the project.
While we all thought that ultimately killed the whole project, it appears that Gadot is ready to make another movie with Gunn and Safran instead of Jenkins, as she recently said to ComicBook.com while promoting her newest movie ‘Heart of Stone’ (before the SAG-AFTRA strike began).
“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together.”

The original ‘Wonder Woman’ movie starring Gal Gadot was released in 2017 to commercial and critical success. The movie started a new era for female-led superhero movies since basically all of them were critical and commercial failures back in the early 2000s. Just remember ‘Catwoman’ and ‘Elektra.’ However, the 2020 sequel ‘WW84’ received more mixed and negative reviews, and it was a box-office disappointment due to its theatrical and streaming simultaneous release.
From the looks of things, it looks like James Gunn is okay with Gadot as Wonder Woman, but Jenkins’ idea for the third movie didn’t sit well with his ideas for the DCU. It’s unknown who could be hired to develop this next movie, but if Gadot returns, that will certainly make a lot of her fans happy.
Gal Gadot is one of the most recognizable and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. Her newest movie, ‘Heart of Stone,’ will debut on Netflix on August 11, 2023. Apart from Wonder Woman, she’s also known for starring in the ‘Fast & Furious’ saga, which she returned to this year in ‘Fast X,’ and the Netflix movie ‘Red Notice,’ also starring Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson, for which two sequels are currently in development.
