‘God of War Laufey’ New Video Show Faye Facing Kratos as Pre-Orders Open

Few franchises have reinvented themselves as boldly as ‘God of War.’ The series moved from Greek rage to Norse fatherhood and now to something even more surprising. The latest ‘God of War Laufey‘ new images offer a closer look at that shift, and they arrive right before pre-orders open.

Santa Monica Studio is making a big bet on a character whose story has long gone untold. The game centers on Faye, the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, who has mostly been seen in memories and legend. Now, she is the star.

A fresh batch of images from the game shows Faye, with fiery red-orange hair, standing face to face with Kratos in a stone hall lit by a burning brazier. Another shows a vivid, alien landscape filled with colorful flowers and glowing skies.

The images appear to come from PlayStation’s latest blog post, which promised brand-new screenshots and footage of Faye’s combat. It also detailed the pre-order bonus and Digital Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders go live on September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

The blog highlighted a new weapon called the Serpent Bow. It is an enchanted bow with the shifting form of a serpent, and it can go from dormant to notched at lightning speed. It lets Faye weave deadly arrow strikes alongside her other attacks.

By pressing the aim trigger all the way down, players get more precise aim and a longer draw distance. The bow is described as effective in both close-quarters and ranged combat. It adds a new layer to Faye’s fighting style, which has been described as fast, controlled, and relentless.

‘God of War Laufey’ launches on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The story begins after Faye’s death, when she wakes in a strange land after her funeral. She discovers that the plans she set up to protect Kratos and Atreus are now at risk.

To save them, she must fight through the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods, where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power. The world is described as overflowing with dangerous magic. Reports say her opponents include Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war, and Begtse, the Mongolian god of war.

The game is the 11th installment in the series, and the first mainline entry where Kratos is not the main character. The narrative takes place at the same time as the events of ‘God of War’ (2018) and ‘God of War Ragnarök.’ Faye is a powerful Jötnar who died just before the 2018 game began.

Game Informer noted that she is accompanied by a talking gelatinous cube and a sword ribbon, an unusual pair of partners for the franchise. Forbes described the game as a love story despite all the action. It shows how far the series has moved from its early days.

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye, and Christopher Judge returns as Kratos. Jack Quaid voices a character named Phranque, and Perlina Lau plays Rue. Ariel Lawrence is the game director, and Cory Barlog is Santa Monica Studio’s head of creative.

Woll first played the character in ‘God of War Ragnarök.’ Now, she leads her own game, backed by performance capture that brings each character to life. The studio says it hopes to shed light on someone whose story has been untold.

Kratos is not gone for good. At San Diego Comic-Con, Barlog confirmed that a new Kratos-led game is already in development and will directly continue the events of ‘God of War Laufey.’ He said everything introduced in Faye’s journey is meant to lay the foundation for it.

Other projects are in motion too, including a Greek Trilogy Remake with TC Carson returning as Kratos. The Prime Video series has been paused after actor Ryan Hurst was injured and recast. Santa Monica has four God of War projects moving at once.

The release also carries a hardware footnote. Barlog confirmed the game will ship on physical discs. Since Sony plans to stop producing discs in 2028, it will be one of the last PS5 exclusives with a physical edition.

That makes the February release date feel more significant. It arrives earlier than many expected, and fans have already begun making room in their calendars. With pre-orders opening, the countdown is officially on.
