Henry Cavill Gives Fans a Sneak Peek at His Look in the ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Henry Cavill has given fans a first look at his look in the upcoming Highlander reboot. The film, officially titled Highlander: The Reckoning, will see Cavill take on the role of Connor MacLeod, the iconic immortal hero from the original 1986 film.

The actor also revealed that he has injured himself, postponing production for a few months.

The Highlander franchise has seen a long journey toward this reboot. Summit Entertainment bought the rights back in 2008, intending to remake the original movie. Over the years, several directors and writers were attached to the project, including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, and Chad Stahelski. Writers such as Melissa Rosenberg, Ryan J. Condal, and Mike Finch have worked on scripts at different points.

Producer Neal H. Moritz told Collider that the team wants to honor the original films while introducing the story to new audiences. “We want to stay true to the mythologies as a whole of the Highlander series… while presenting the new version for old and new fans of the franchise,” he said.

The reboot has seen several major casting announcements in recent years. Russell Crowe joined in June of this year as Ramirez, and Karen Gillan was cast as Heather in August. Cavill’s role as MacLeod was confirmed in autumn 2023 when Lionsgate moved the project forward, with Stahelski attached to direct and a budget reportedly over $100 million.

Producers on the film include Joshua Davis, Neal H. Moritz, Chad Stahelski, and Louise Rosner. Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber acquired the project under the United Artists banner in April.

Filming had been scheduled to start earlier, but production was delayed after Cavill suffered an injury. The new plan is to begin shooting in early 2026.

Fans are already excited to see Cavill step into the role of the immortal MacLeod. Stahelski, who is known for his work on the John Wick series, will also bring his signature action style to the film. The combination of Cavill, Stahelski, and a star-studded cast has created a lot of anticipation for this reboot.
