We all know that Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest Hollywood franchise ever. With all the media it spawned so far, it takes a lot of previous knowledge to properly follow all the new stuff that Marvel Studios is offering us. MCU concluded two more trilogies this year — Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. While these two trilogies are now concluded, the fans already know that the majority of characters that we met in them will eventually return. One of those characters is Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie. Since we met her as an innocent little girl, and now she’s a young woman and a superhero known as Stature, we decided to tell you how old Cassie Lang is in each of her MCU appearances.

In the MCU canon, Cassie Lang was born in July 2007. The character was first introduced in the original Ant-Man movie in 2015 when she was eight years old. The sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp occurred in 2018 when Cassie was 11 years old. Following a five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame, Cassie is 16 years old during the movie’s events since she survived Thanos’ snap. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania takes place in 2025, so Cassie is already 17-18 years old in that movie.

Cassie Lang is a pretty interesting MCU character considering she appeared in four MCU movies, played by three different actresses. Abby Ryder Fortson is the only actress that played the character in two movies, as she debuted in the original Ant-Man film and reprised the role in its sequel. Emma Fuhrmann played a teenage Cassie in Avengers: Endgame. Kathryn Newton replaced Fuhrmann for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and it is expected she will eventually reprise the role in one of the upcoming MCU movies.

How old was Cassie in the original Ant-Man movie?

Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang was introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Ant-Man movie in 2015. The movie depicted the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, as the veteran scientist and former Ant-Man who chooses Scott, an ex-con who wants to reestablish a relationship with his daughter Cassie after getting out of prison, as his successor.

In the MCU canon, Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang was born in 2007, and one of the movie’s scenes depicts her birthday party. The original Ant-Man movie takes place in the same year it was released, 2015, so she was celebrating her 8th birthday. Abby Ryder Fortson played the minor role until the movie’s third act, in which Darren Cross tried to kidnap her, but Scott ultimately defeated him and saved his own daughter.

How old was Cassie in Ant-Man and the Wasp?

Following the events of the original movie, Ant-Man was recruited to join Steve Rogers’ team in Civil War against Iron Man. After that, Scott was placed on house arrest, which allowed him to spend more time with Cassie. The Ant-Man and the Wasp movie begins three years after the original movie and two years since Scott was placed on house arrest, meaning that Cassie was 11 at the time. Abby Ryder Fortson reprised the role of Cassie, and to this day, she’s still the only actress that played Cassie Lang on more than one occasion. At least for now.

How old was Cassie in Avengers: Endgame?

Avengers: Endgame was the movie when the MCU timeline got more tricky to follow. While Avengers: Infinity War takes place in 2018, the same year it was released, Avengers: Endgame takes place five years later, although it was released only one year after Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame takes place in 2023, so we would say present day now, and using simple math, we calculate that Cassie Lang was 16 years old.

Due to the time jump in Endgame, Abby Ryder Fortson couldn’t reprise the role of Cassie Lang, so Emma Fuhrmann was hired to take over. Cassie Lang survived Thanos’ snap from Infinity War. Hypothetically, if she didn’t survive the snap, she would return to life at the same age she was in 2018, but then Scott wouldn’t be able to find her when he returned home after spending five years (or five hours for him) in the Quantum Realm.

Why was Cassie replaced for Ant-Man 3, and how old is she in that movie?

While it was suspected that Emma Fuhrmann would continue to play Cassie Lang in post-Endgame MCU projects, Marvel Studios made a surprising decision when they announced that Kathryn Newton would take over the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While Marvel Studios never provided an official statement about this recasting, director Peyton Reed explained it in the movie’s audio commentary with these words:

“We’ve just introduced our now 18-year-old Cassie Lang. Kathryn Newton, of course, is an actor who I have admired for a long time. And when we were talking about Cassie in this movie, she’s aged five years since the events of Ant-Man and The Wasp. And I wanted someone in that role who could really hang with Paul Rudd and sort of not be left in the dust. She’s gotta be sharp, and quick, and funny. And also, [Newton] is an athlete. She’s a world-class golfer. She has the physicality for the role.”

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark and Black Widow’s death, and Steve Rogers’ retirement, it was time for the remaining heroes to become new faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We waited four long years for Ant-Man’s return in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which apparently takes place in 2025 when Cassie is 18 years old, even though the 26-year-old actress plays her.

When and where will Cassie Lang return to the MCU?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania didn’t only introduce Kathryn Newton as the new Cassie Lang but also made her a new superhero in MCU’s roster. Before the movie’s events, Cassie was given a purple suit, and she’s now also a superhero known as Stature.

Making her one of the heroes means that Kevin Feige has more plans for Newton in future MCU projects, although the only one that seems likely for now is the upcoming crossover event Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. There’s also that theory about the potential Young Avengers project, but we never got official word that something like that is in development.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now streaming on Disney+.
