‘Jackass’ Tension Reignites as Steve-O Confronts Bam Margera in Direct Message Over Fallout
Steve-O has spoken out about Bam Margera during the release period of the new and final Jackass film Jackass: Best and Last, bringing renewed attention to the long-running fallout between the two former co-stars.
The latest film reunites most of the original Jackass team, but Bam Margera is largely absent after being removed during the production of Jackass Forever in 2022. His removal followed a reported breach of a “wellness agreement” included in his contract, which was tied to concerns about his sobriety and personal health at the time.
Margera’s exit from the project led to a public legal dispute, including a lawsuit against Johnny Knoxville and co-creator Jeff Tremaine. The situation later escalated with tensions between former friends, although that conflict has cooled somewhat in recent years.
For Jackass: Best and Last, Margera does not return as a full cast member. Instead, he appears only through previously recorded and unused archival footage from Jackass Forever. At one point, fans had believed he might be part of the final film, but Margera later clarified that this was not a full comeback and only involved past material being included under agreement.
Steve-O recently addressed the situation on the TMZ podcast while discussing the state of the Jackass group and Bam Margera’s recovery. He acknowledged that it is positive to see Margera in a better place personally, especially after years of documented struggles with addiction and repeated rehab stays.

Margera has publicly said that he has now been sober for two years, marking what many see as an important step in his recovery journey. His parents have also recently given positive updates about his condition, saying he is doing well and continuing to improve.
During the podcast, Steve-O said that while he is happy about Margera’s progress, there are still unresolved issues from the past that need to be addressed if full reconciliation is to happen. He emphasized that accountability is an important part of recovery and rebuilding relationships.
“If he could take accountability for what happened in the past and say, ‘You know what, that’s what happened and now I’m healthy. I’m willing to admit my part,’ that’s recovery,” Steve-O said.
His comments reflect the ongoing emotional distance between Margera and some of his former castmates, even as public updates suggest improvement in his personal life.
Margera’s parents also spoke positively about his progress during interviews around the film’s premiere. His father Phil Margera said, “He’s fantastic. I’m knocking on wood every day, but he’s fantastic.” His mother April Margera also added, “He’s actually doing really, really well.”
There are also hints that reconciliation within the Jackass group may still be possible in the future, though no official reunion plans have been confirmed. For now, Steve-O’s comments highlight both progress and unresolved history as the franchise closes this chapter with Jackass: Best and Last.
