Jonah Hill Reveals His All-Time Favorite Scene—A Prank on Leonardo DiCaprio
Jonah Hill shared the story behind his favorite scene from The Wolf of Wall Street, and it involves a hilarious prank on Leonardo DiCaprio.
Speaking on Instagram in a montage of interviews, Hill explained that working with DiCaprio was intense because the actor takes realism very seriously.
“Any time you do any sort of physical scene with Leonardo DiCaprio, he doesn’t understand that it’s acting, and he beats the living crap out of you for six months,”
Hill said, describing how DiCaprio’s dedication sometimes led to real punches on set. Hill admitted he was hit in the face for real during filming, which eventually gave him the idea to get some playful revenge.
Knowing he couldn’t match DiCaprio physically, Hill decided to outsmart him. He pointed to a sushi scene in the film as the perfect moment.
The original line had DiCaprio asking if Hill wanted the last piece of yellowtail, and Hill was supposed to respond affirmatively. Instead, Hill responded, “It’s all yours,” forcing DiCaprio to eat it. Hill recalled, “By the end of the night, he was on the floor throwing up into a waste bin.”
Hill said the moment was one of the best during the shoot. “Everyone was like, ‘Leo, are you OK? Are you OK?’ And the only two people on the floor laughing hysterically were myself and Martin Scorsese,” he said. He added, “It was one of the better moments of the whole shoot. Use your brain; it’s better than your muscles.”
This story shows the lighter side of film sets, where even big stars like DiCaprio can be the target of a clever prank. It also highlights Hill’s quick thinking and sense of humor, which turned a physically tough shoot into a memorable, funny moment.
