Kate Winslet has spoken openly about how tough the filming of Titanic was and how the pressure on set often felt overwhelming. In an interview, she said the working conditions were exhausting and that director James Cameron was extremely intense while making the film.

She explained that the schedule was very long and unpredictable, with filming sometimes lasting from early morning until the next day. Winslet described the experience as disorienting, saying the cast often had to rest whenever they could, even if it meant sleeping during short breaks. Meals and daily routines were constantly shifting because of the nonstop production pace.

“It was every man for himself on the set; you had to ensure that you snatched some sleep during the day, with a black eye mask on. Sometimes you’d find yourself having lunch at two am or breakfast at four pm. It was very disorienting,” she said.

Winslet also talked about James Cameron’s strong personality and how demanding he could be as a director. She said he had a clear vision for the film, but his temper made the set very stressful at times, especially for younger actors still adjusting to Hollywood.

“He’s a nice guy, but the problem was that his vision for the film was as clear as it was. He has a temper like you wouldn’t believe… As it was, the actors got off lightly. I think Jim knew he couldn’t shout at us the way he did to his crew because our performances would be no good,” she said.

Even with the difficult conditions, Titanic went on to become one of the most successful films in history. Released in 1997, it became a global box office phenomenon and held the record for the highest-grossing film for years. The movie also won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and turned both Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio into global stars.

Despite the pressure and exhaustion during filming, Winslet has often reflected on the experience as a major turning point in her career.
