According to Peacock, Law & Order: Organized Crime has officially been canceled and will not return for a sixth season. The news marks the end of Elliot Stabler’s latest chapter in the long-running Law & Order universe.

The show first started on NBC as part of the broader Dick Wolf franchise. It spent four seasons on broadcast television before moving to Peacock for its fifth season. The series followed Stabler as he returned to New York law enforcement and joined the Organized Crime Control Bureau.

From the beginning, Organized Crime stood out from other Law & Order shows. Instead of separate weekly cases, it used longer storylines that stretched across multiple episodes. This made it feel more like a continuing drama than a standard procedural crime show.

However, that format also created challenges. After moving to streaming, the show had trouble settling into a consistent direction. One of the biggest issues was stability behind the scenes. The series went through several creative changes over its run, including multiple showrunners.

This constant change made it harder for the show to maintain a steady identity. While some fans liked the more serialized storytelling, others felt it struggled to balance its tone within the larger Law & Order brand.

Actor Christopher Meloni, who plays Elliot Stabler, responded to the cancellation with a personal message shared on social media on April 17. In his message, he thanked fans for their support and for staying with the character over many years.

He said, “I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back.”

Meloni also reflected on his long journey with the role, describing it as a “good ride.” His time playing Stabler has stretched across different shows and many years of television history, making the character one of the most recognizable figures in the franchise.

Even though Organized Crime is ending, Meloni is not stepping away from television. He is set to star in a new drama series called The Land, created by Dan Fogelman. The show is centered around professional football and features a strong ensemble cast, including William H. Macy and Mandy Moore.

There is also still a connection to the Law & Order world. Law & Order: SVU has already been renewed for another season. That keeps the door open for possible future appearances between Stabler and Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay.

For now, though, Organized Crime is coming to an end after five seasons. The cancellation closes a major chapter in the franchise, but the larger Law & Order universe continues to move forward on television.
