Lost Lantern Found: Snyder Cut Almost Featured Notable Green Lantern, Design Revealed

A Green Lantern almost made it into Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and now, years later, we’re finally getting a look at what he could’ve looked like.
The concept design for Tomar-Re, a fan-favorite Green Lantern from the DC comics, has just been revealed by concept artist Jerad S. Marantz. He shared the design on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse of what might have been.
Tomar-Re was originally supposed to appear in Snyder’s cut of the film, but he was left out before the final version. Marantz said, “Tomar-Re! One of my absolute favorite Green Lanterns. Almost forgot about this guy. I got the chance to do a pass on the character for Justice League a while back.”
He went on to explain that the character didn’t make the final cut, though fans might remember seeing the body of another Green Lantern, Kilowog, in the Snyder Cut.
The artist also gave credit to the costume designer, writing, “Working on Justice League was an incredible experience with Costume Designer @michaelwilkinson! He is easily one of the best in the industry.”
For Marantz, the whole project was a major moment in his career. “Justice League was definitely a career highlight. I was able to work on some of my absolute favorite DC characters and I was able to work with some of the industry’s best artists from Los Angeles and the UK,” he said.
In the DC universe, Tomar-Re is part of the Green Lantern Corps and comes from a bird-like alien race called the Xudarians.
He was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane and first appeared in Green Lantern #6 back in 1961. The character had a small part in the 2011 Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds, where he was voiced by Geoffrey Rush.
Apparently, Tomar-Re was even part of one version of the post-credits scene planned for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but that version never made it to the screen. Still, this new concept art gives fans a chance to imagine what could’ve been. The design reveal was first reported by Evolve and comes directly from Marantz’s own Instagram post.
