Marlon Wayans Confirms Beloved Character Will Return in ‘Scary Movie 6’

Fans of the Scary Movie franchise have reason to celebrate. Marlon Wayans revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he will reprise his role as Shorty in the upcoming Scary Movie 6. Wayans first played the character in the original Scary Movie and its sequel, Scary Movie 2.

The sixth installment will see Marlon Wayans sharing the screen with familiar faces Anna Faris and Regina Hall, both of whom starred in the first two films.

Wayans hinted that the film will also bring back a few other returning characters, saying, “We have plans to bring a few more back.”

Wayans also spoke about how the new movie reflects the changes in both comedy and cinema over the years. “I think you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror has changed, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted,” he explained. “I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. That’s how we constructed the movie so we could talk about it all.”

Michael Tiddes is directing Scary Movie 6, which is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. Rick Alvarez is writing and producing alongside Marlon and Shawn Wayans, marking the brothers’ return to the franchise for the first time since 2001.

The original Scary Movie was released in 2000 and became a major hit, parodying popular horror films of the time like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project.

It grossed $278 million worldwide and helped launch a series of five sequels between 2000 and 2013. Only the first two films were created by the Wayans Brothers, making this return a nostalgic moment for fans of the franchise.

It seems Scary Movie 6 will lean into that nostalgia while also updating the comedy for a modern audience. Wayans, Faris, and Hall together promise a throwback to the early 2000s while introducing the humor to a new generation.
