McDonald’s New Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal Is Here, and It’s Turning Kaiju Into Something Adorable – Check out the Promo
McDonald’s has spent the last couple of years turning its Happy Meal lineup into a launchpad for some of pop culture’s most unexpected pairings. From BTS-themed toys to a Japanese-inspired dipping sauce collab with ‘Jujutsu Kaisen,’ the fast-food giant has increasingly leaned into East Asian entertainment partnerships to keep both kids and collectors coming back.
That trend has now produced one of its most surprising mashups yet. Hello Kitty and the Sanrio universe are teaming up with Japan’s most iconic monster franchise, blending two wildly different corners of pop culture into a single collectible lineup that’s equal parts cute and creature feature.
The Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal is now available at participating McDonald’s locations nationwide for a limited time. McDonald’s began teasing the collaboration earlier this month with a short Instagram clip showing Hello Kitty eyeing a Happy Meal underwater while dressed in what appeared to be a monster suit, complete with a fierce head and tail.
The meal includes eight exclusive collectible toys, reimagining familiar Sanrio characters as playful kaiju hybrids. One standout from the collection is “Pompom Gigan,” a mashup design blending the Sanrio character Pompompurin with the design elements of Godzilla’s iconic rival, Gigan. Per McDonald’s own description of the collaboration, the promotion is billed as the ultimate crossover where “kawaii meets kaiju,” with monsters proving that even the mightiest among them have a soft side.
This isn’t McDonald’s first rodeo when it comes to blending Sanrio characters with outside franchises. The chain has previously paired Hello Kitty with properties ranging from Yu-Gi-Oh to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, building a track record of crossover Happy Meals that has turned into a reliable draw for collectors well beyond the usual kids’ meal crowd. Earlier this summer, McDonald’s also rolled out a BT21 Happy Meal tied to BTS, continuing a partnership that began with TinyTAN toys inspired by the group’s seven members back in 2025.
The Godzilla side of the partnership fits into a broader pattern for the franchise as well, which has increasingly branched into lifestyle and pop culture collaborations beyond the movie theater. Pairing the monster franchise with one of the most recognizable character brands in the world gives both properties a chance to reach entirely different corners of the same fanbase.
For collectors specifically hoping these toys hold value down the line, keeping them sealed in their original packaging is generally the safest bet, a tip that applies just as much here as it does with any limited-run collectible. Given how quickly some of McDonald’s past crossover promotions have sold out or become sought-after on the secondary market, that advice carries extra weight for whoever ends up grabbing this particular lineup.
Whether kids today fully grasp who Godzilla actually is remains an open question, but that’s unlikely to stop adult collectors from making the trip anyway. Between the novelty of the crossover and the appeal of eight distinct toy designs, this is exactly the kind of limited-time promotion built to move fast at participating locations.
The Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal is available now while supplies last, giving fans a limited window to track down the full set.
