MCU’s Live-Action ‘X-Men’ Reboot Gets a Production Update

Heres When We Can Reportedly Expect X Men To be Introduced to the MCU

In March 2019, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool after Disney’s acquisition of Fox for $71.3 billion.

These characters are planned to be integrated into the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were rebranded as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart already reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels’. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ a sequel to ‘Deadpool 2,’ will bring Deadpool and Wolverine, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity.

We know that the ‘X-Men’ reboot project has been in talks for quite some time now, and we might finally have an update on when the production is expected to begin. According to Production Weekly, ‘X-Men’ should start production in late 2025, which is quite a while from now, and verifies the reports we have written about last month.

Alex Perez reported in his Q&A that we shouldn’t expect X-Men anytime soon in the MCU, despite some of them joining the Cinematic Universe with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men ’97’ being quite successful. The studio doesn’t want to rush it.

It will be a while. And anyone expecting mutants (or X-Men) to suddenly come into the MCU after Deadpool & Wolverine will be sorely disappointed.

MCU already has at least six mutants that we know of in the MCU, starting with Kamala Khan, who was also made mutant in the comics retconning her Inhuman origins, and Namor, the most notable mutant inclusion who was introduced to the universe in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ We also have El Aguila and Mr. Immortal, who debuted in ‘She-Hulk’ but fans were never focused as much on them, so I don’t think they really count as mutants as far as the general audience is concerned.

These are disappointing rumors in any case, but it’s better to deliver them with a good story than to rush them just to check some boxes. Besides Deadpool, Wolverine, and other possible cameos from the Fox’s X-Men franchise, Storm was also heavily rumored to be included in ‘What If…?’ Season 3.
