The Marinette that Chrysalis akumatized was actually a decoy, part of an elaborate trap designed to confuse Chrysalis and convince her that Marinette is not Ladybug, all while allowing the team to track down her lair.

Things escalate quickly once Nemesis is unleashed. Nemesis hunts down Alya, and when Cat Noir and Ladybug attempt to stop her, Ladybug intentionally ‘loses’ the fight, getting petrified by Nemesis’ Medusa Gorgon Eyes attack alongside Pigella and Caprikid, while Cat Noir is incapacitated by an Antikuma. From there, Nemesis seizes the Miraculous earrings under Chrysalis’ orders and drops them into the Fontaine de Trocadero, where Ryuko waits in her Water Dragon form to track them. What follows is a tense chase sequence as Ryuko and Polymouse attempt to track whoever retrieves the earrings, only for the item to be passed rapidly from a child to a firefighter and lost in the crowd.

The episode also confirms something fans had suspected for episodes. Cerise, the woman behind Chrysalis, is revealed to have shapeshifting abilities, which explains how she managed to escape the Miraculers by taking King Monkey’s form to trick Ladybug and how she remained so elusive throughout the season. Alya Discovers Marinette’s Ladybug Secret

The most emotionally charged thread of the finale belongs to Alya, whose arc throughout the back half of Season 6 has been building toward a major revelation. After manifesting several scenarios of the final battle with Monarch, Alya finally discovers the truth about Gabriel being Monarch after illusions of the two accidentally merge together.
