Na Hong-jin’s upcoming sci-fi action thriller ‘Hope‘ is bringing a wild mix of alien creatures, explosive battles, and survival horror to the big screen. The first full trailer for the Korean film has arrived, giving audiences a closer look at the massive scale and chaotic action that have already made the movie one of the most talked-about releases of the year.

The film is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on September 9 through Neon, following a major buzz-filled debut at the Cannes Film Festival. According to reports from the festival, the movie quickly gained attention after its late-night Competition screening, with many viewers praising its unusual mix of science fiction, action, and intense monster mayhem.

Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, the filmmaker behind ‘The Wailing’, ‘Hope’ takes place in a small South Korean fishing village that suddenly becomes the center of a terrifying event. The peaceful community is thrown into chaos after a mysterious creature appears and begins causing destruction.

The trailer introduces police officer Bum-seok, played by Hwang Jung-min, who investigates the strange situation alongside officer Sung-ae, portrayed by Hoyeon. As the danger grows, a group of local hunters led by Sung-ki, played by Zo In-sung, decides to track down the creature themselves.

What begins as an investigation quickly turns into a massive fight for survival. The trailer shows humans facing enormous alien monsters, crashing spaceships, intense gun battles, and dangerous chases through forests, roads, and open fields. The action appears to move at a nonstop pace, promising a film that blends creature horror with a large-scale sci-fi war.

The movie features an international cast that includes Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. Their involvement has helped increase interest in the project, especially as the film combines Korean storytelling with a global cast and a huge science fiction concept.

‘Hope’ was produced by Na Hong-jin’s production company, Forged Films, along with Plus M Entertainment. Plus M Entertainment is also handling international sales for the film, while Neon acquired the North American rights before the movie’s Cannes premiere. The film has also secured distribution deals in several other international markets.

The project has been described as one of Na Hong-jin’s biggest productions yet, moving away from the smaller-scale mystery and horror stories he became known for and toward a much larger sci-fi experience. However, the filmmaker’s focus on tension and human reactions remains at the center of the story.

During Cannes, Na Hong-jin revealed that he has already written a script for a possible sequel to ‘Hope’, suggesting that the story could continue beyond the first movie if audiences respond positively.
