Netflix is Bringing Back ‘Land of the Lost’ — Get Ready for Dinosaurs, Danger, and Epic New Adventures

Netflix is set to bring back the 1974 sci-fi adventure series Land of the Lost in a new reboot, partnering with Legendary Television.

The project, reported by Deadline, is in its early stages, with Sid and Marty Krofft, the original creators, producing alongside Deanna Krofft Pope, COO of their company. The team is currently searching for a writer to shape the updated series.

The original show, which aired on NBC from 1974 to 1976 and later on CBS, followed Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, who stumbled through a portal into a mysterious world. They encountered dinosaurs like a T-Rex named Grumpy, primate-like creatures called Pakuni, and eerie reptilian Sleestak.

A Pakuni named Cha-Ka became their ally. The series, featuring actors Spencer Milligan, Wesley Eure, and Kathy Coleman, used stop-motion animation for its creatures and built a dedicated cult following despite its short run.

Land of the Lost has been revisited before, with a 1991 ABC remake and a 2009 film starring Will Ferrell, both produced by the Kroffts. Netflix’s reboot joins their growing list of revived classics, including Lost in Space, One Day at a Time, and an upcoming Little House on the Prairie project.

Legendary Television is also busy with shows like HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider, alongside other projects at Amazon.

Neither Netflix nor Legendary has officially commented on the reboot, but excitement is building for this nostalgic return to a prehistoric, sci-fi world.

Reviving Land of the Lost is a fun idea, but it’ll need a fresh spin to stand out in today’s crowded streaming landscape. The original’s mix of adventure and quirky creatures has charm, and I hope Netflix keeps that spirit while updating it for modern viewers. I’m curious to see how they handle the dinosaurs and Sleestak with today’s tech. What do you think about bringing back Land of the Lost? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
