Netflix’s New 3-Part Crime Series Explodes on the U.S. Streaming Charts
A new true crime docuseries is taking over Netflix charts and quickly becoming one of the most-watched shows in the world. According to streaming rankings reported for multiple regions, the series has reached number one in 21 countries and also sits at number 6 on the U.S. Top 10 list.
The show is called Should I Marry a Murderer?, and it has gained attention not just for its crime story but also for its shocking real-life details. Its title alone has helped draw in viewers, especially fans of true crime documentaries.
The series follows Dr. Caroline Muirhead, a forensic pathologist from Scotland who has just left an abusive relationship. Soon after, she meets a man named Alexander “Sandy” McKellar, who lives on a remote estate. Their relationship moves quickly, and within weeks they become engaged.

But the story takes a dark turn when Muirhead learns about her fiancé’s past. McKellar had been involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident years earlier with his brother. Instead of reporting the incident, the two allegedly hid the body on their property. Later, it is revealed that the victim, Tony Parsons, was still alive when he was moved.
As the investigation unfolds in the series, more disturbing details are revealed. Muirhead eventually reports McKellar to the authorities after learning the truth, but the case is difficult to prove at first due to limited physical evidence. Police later spend a year building a case against the brothers, using recorded material and information gathered during the investigation.

The docuseries also focuses heavily on Muirhead’s personal struggles. After leaving her abusive relationship and becoming involved with McKellar, she faces serious mental health challenges. At one point, she is too overwhelmed to attend court proceedings. Her situation has become a major point of discussion among viewers.
Audience reactions to Should I Marry a Murderer? have been divided. Some viewers are highly critical of Muirhead’s decisions, while others argue that the series shows a more complicated human situation involving trauma and emotional vulnerability.
One viewer reacted strongly, saying, “This woman got exactly what she wanted. She got to be the star of her own show and had all the cringey, self-absorbed videos ready to go for her documentary.”
However, another viewer defended her, saying, “She didn’t just drop into this situation with excellent coping skills and fantastic mental health. This woman comes across to me as someone already considerably vulnerable… If we want to support mental health more, we need more discussions like this and more understanding of trauma and attachment wounds.”
According to reporting from Netflix viewing data and audience reactions, the series has become a major streaming success partly because of its controversial subject matter and emotional complexity. True crime viewers have been especially drawn to its mix of romance, crime, and psychological tension.
As a result, Should I Marry a Murderer? continues to hold the number one spot on Netflix in several countries, showing that intense real-life crime stories remain extremely popular with global audiences.
