New Reports Shed Light on Possible ‘X-Men’ Reboot Timeline Within the MCU

Share:

In March 2019, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool after Disney’s acquisition of Fox for $71.3 billion.

These characters are planned to be integrated into the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were rebranded as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart already reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels’.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ will bring Deadpool and Wolverine, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity. Now it’s quite obvious that we are getting closer to the reboot as months pass, and more and more rumors are discussing details surrounding the movie.

During his recent Discord AMA, Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez cleared up some of the timeline issues regarding the upcoming reboot. He was asked whether the MCU interaction of X-Men will be released before or after ‘Secret Wars,’ and according to Perez, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ seems to be the key project for X-Men.

Too early to tell, but from what I understand, the MCU iteration of the X-Men will be introduced post-Secret Wars. And there’s a reason for that, which will be explained in Deadpool and Wolverine.

This is not the first time that ‘Secret Wars’ is mentioned in the context of the X-Men, according to some earlier reports, ‘Secret Wars’ will serve as a reboot for the MCU keeping only the Fantastic Four and X-Men in the current interaction of the cinematic universe.

Besides that, there are not really all that many details surrounding the story and all we really have are rumors. According to earlier reports, the studio is looking for a POC to direct the movie, and Jordan Peele was recently discussing the project with the execs. The team composition is so far unknown but once again, some insiders reveal that the reboot will include some characters that were not part of the live-action projects so far.
