More than a year ago ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was released. It was an important movie in several aspects first, it was the first movie in MCU’s Phase 5 and the first movie to introduce Kang the Conqueror, a character that was bound to be the next major villain in Multiverse Saga. Soon after the release of the movie things started to go awry. The movie was a box-office disappointment and one of the few movies in the MCU that didn’t even break even when all costs are taken into consideration. Critical reception wasn’t good either, the film received mixed reviews at best.

The next major blow came when soon after the premiere Jonathan Majors was arrested and charged on assault charges by his ex-girlfriend, which led to him being fired by Disney 10 months later in December when he was found guilty. ‘Quantumania’ in many ways helped kickstart the beginning of the end for the current direction of the studio, and ‘The Marvels’ helped seal it.

Recently, reports came that the studio is walking away from the possibility of ‘Ant-Man 4’ and ‘Captain Marvel 3’ as they will focus on sure hits in the future. This is a shame because the studio gambling on “lesser-known” characters gave us the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise and the first two ‘Ant-Man’ movies that were definitely hit with the audiences. Now while promoting ‘Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire’ Rudd explained when he might next appear as Ant-Man in his interview with Dexerto. When asked when we might next see Scot Lang, Rudd was honest:

I have no idea. None whatosever. You know that’s always in their [the studio] camp and we’ll see if they have ideas and that were to come about. I guess we’ll find out, but I don’t really know.

Rudd gave an honest answer, probably aware that his future in the standalone projects is unsure at best. However, we can always bet on the fact that his story might continue in the movies focused on other characters and the Avengers. Especially in the light of the fact that his daughter, Cassie Lang is being recruited into the Young Avengers by Kamala Khan, a project that’s steadily being developed as we speak.
