Playing Batman is one of the most coveted jobs in Hollywood, and it’s also one of the most grueling. Robert Pattinson has spent years living inside Matt Reeves’ version of Gotham, with long night shoots, heavy training and the pressure of following several famous predecessors. Now the actor has offered a heartfelt look back, and his comments suggest that Robert Pattinson’s Batman future may stretch well beyond the next film.

In a recent conversation with BAFTA, Pattinson said he really connected with the role and described shooting it as an unbelievable experience. He added that he just wants to keep doing it for as long as he can. That is about as clear a signal as an actor can give that he isn’t ready to hang up the cowl.

The comments carry extra weight given how Pattinson has spoken about the part before. In earlier interviews, he called Batman the jewel in the crown of roles for an actor, and said he never thought he was close to getting it. He has also joked about his own training and then set the record straight, saying he worked out every day for the first film.

For the sequel, he reportedly had a home gym installed. He has said he heard from a stunt coordinator that the film involves 11 weeks of night shoots before he’d even seen a schedule, which gives a sense of how demanding the production is.

The sequel began filming in London in June 2026, and Reeves shared a first look at Pattinson back in the Batsuit in July. The release date has since been moved to February 18, 2028, which is the latest in a series of delays from the original October 2025 date. The first film, released on March 4, 2022, opened to $134 million domestically and grossed $770.3 million worldwide.

More recently, production was temporarily paused on October 5 while Reeves focuses on a family matter. The studio said Reeves has the full support of DC Studios, and Pattinson said filming would pause for a little bit before the team figures it out. No change to the release date has been confirmed.

Pattinson is joined by Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as the Penguin following the HBO series ‘The Penguin’, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. New additions include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch. The story is set after events in ‘The Penguin’.

That depth of casting suggests Warner Bros. sees the series as a major pillar of its DC lineup. It also helps explain why Pattinson would want to stay with it.

Reeves has long been described as building a trilogy, which Den of Geek reported when the sequel was first dated. A third film has no date, cast or public greenlight at the moment, so Pattinson’s comments may hint at where he’d like the story to go. He has said before that he thinks the saga can be developed in many ways.

It would be a fitting result for a project that has taken years to build. Pattinson has said the first film was an unusual shoot, with Reeves involved for five years and a production that stretched about 15 months.

Pattinson’s Batman exists in the Elseworlds banner, separate from James Gunn’s DC Universe. Gunn has said that the DCU Batman hasn’t been cast yet, and he recently said the actor will be roughly the same age as David Corenswet’s Superman. That means the two versions can run side by side.

It also means Pattinson’s willingness to continue doesn’t conflict with the studio’s plans. Reeves’ films have their own continuity and their own tone, and fans have embraced them as a distinct take on Gotham.

The key question is whether production resumes smoothly and whether the February 2028 date holds. If it does, ‘The Batman Part II’ will arrive six years after the original. Pattinson’s comments are a reminder that the star is committed, even as the schedule shifts.

For fans, that is welcome news. After years of waiting, they have an actor who says he wants to keep going.

Would you like to see Pattinson continue as Batman beyond the sequel?
