Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series Is Nearing Completion as Hannah Peel Joins to Compose the Score
Few video game franchises have waited as long for a great screen adaptation as ‘Assassin’s Creed‘. The series has spent years in development at Netflix, with false starts, creative changes and long stretches of silence. Now the live-action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series is finally showing real signs of life, with an update that points to the finish line.
In its Fall 2026 franchise update, Ubisoft said production on the Netflix series is nearing completion in Rome, Italy. Jean Guesdon, the franchise’s Head of Content, visited the set, consulted on the scripts and met the showrunners. Ubisoft also confirmed that award-winning composer Hannah Peel has joined the project to compose the score.
Peel’s credits include ‘Insomnia’, ‘Rogue Agent’ and ‘Game of Thrones: The Last Watch’, and she is known for blending electronic and orchestral textures. That background makes her an intriguing pick for a series that mixes historical drama with a hidden war across centuries. Music has always been a defining part of the games, so the choice of composer will be closely watched.
Ubisoft also shared a teaser image from the set with a caption saying there was something it still couldn’t show. That is a reminder that the studio and Netflix have kept a tight lid on the series so far.
The series is an original story set in Ancient Rome, with Ubisoft saying filming began in the year 64 AD. Production listings suggest it takes place during the early reign of Emperor Nero, though that has not been officially confirmed. It is built around the secret war between two shadowy factions, one that wants to control humanity’s future and another that fights to preserve free will.
The showrunners have said it is a story about human connection across cultures and time. That focus suggests a character-driven approach rather than simply recreating moments from the games.
JUST IN: Ubisoft says production on Netflix’s live-action ASSASSIN’S CREED series is "nearing completion." Award-winning composer Hannah Peel (Insomnia, Rogue Agent, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch) has joined the project and will be composing the series’ score. https://t.co/teydLqbslx

Netflix greenlit the series in July 2025, with Roberto Patino (‘Westworld’, ‘DMZ’) and David Wiener (‘Halo’, ‘Homecoming’) serving as creators, showrunners and executive producers. Johan Renck is directing the pilot. The series is produced by Ubisoft Film & Television.
The ensemble cast includes Toby Wallace, who was the first star announced, along with Lola Petticrew, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhaan Rizwan, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Sean Harris, Youssef Kerkour, Louis McCartney, Mirren Mack, Ramzy Bedia and Corrado Invernizzi. Character details have mostly been kept under wraps.
The project dates back to October 2020, when Netflix and Ubisoft announced a deal for several adaptations, including a live-action series, an animated series and an anime. ‘Die Hard’ screenwriter Jeb Stuart was attached to write the live-action version, but he left by early 2023, and the project lingered for two years. The current creative team took over with the series order in July 2025.
Filming reportedly began on March 9, 2026, at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. One outlet reports that the seven-month shoot wrapped in mid-October, while Ubisoft’s own wording is that production is nearing completion, so the exact status may differ depending on the unit.
There is no release date yet. Based on the production timeline, the earliest estimate floated by one outlet is the second half of 2027, though that is speculation. Netflix hasn’t confirmed a window, and post-production will take time.
Ubisoft’s update also touched on the franchise’s future more broadly. The company said no other remakes are actively in development after ‘Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’, and it plans a year of celebrations for the franchise’s 20th anniversary in 2027.
The series sits at the center of Netflix’s growing slate of game adaptations, which also includes the live-action ‘PUBG’ series with Donald Glover and a ‘Gears of War’ film. Of all those projects, ‘Assassin’s Creed’ is among the furthest along. A successful launch could make it a flagship for the whole strategy.
For fans, the update is the most encouraging news in years. Footage, a trailer and a release date are the natural next steps.
