Rumor Suggests Robert Pattinson Could Become the DCU’s Sole Batman in the Future

By now, it’s widely known that Matt Reeves’ The Batman was a massive hit. Although it was set in a different universe than the DCEU at the time, introducing a second Batman, it doesn’t seem like it will be connected to James Gunn’s new DCU.

Despite the changes brought on by DC’s recent revamps, Reeves’ solo series appears to remain unaffected. While some fans feared that his original plans would be scrapped, Reeves seems poised to continue building his own world. Gunn will focus on his version of the character, while Reeves will keep developing Robert Pattinson’s iteration.

However, a new rumor suggests that Warner Bros. executives want to capitalize on the success of The Batman, with the CEO reportedly pushing for Pattinson to become the primary Batman in the DCU, potentially overriding Gunn’s initial plans.

According to popular and reliable insider Jeff Sneider, the rumor suggests that WB CEO David Zaslav is pushing for more Batman content in the DCU. If true, this makes sense. The Batman was a hit, Batman remains DC’s most valuable character, The Penguin series is doing well, and Batman recently earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While James Gunn’s plan for the DCU is long-term, Sneider claims Zaslav wants to compete with the MCU sooner rather than later. As a result, he’s pushing for Pattinson’s Batman to be the DCU’s primary Batman. However, several complications arise.

Gunn has explicitly stated that Pattinson’s Batman exists separately from the DCU’s Batman, who will debut in The Brave and the Bold.

Though retroactively integrating Pattinson into the DCU isn’t impossible, it would likely cause conflict. First, Reeves would be unlikely to give up creative control over his world, which differs greatly from Gunn’s lighter tone. Second, it would limit Gunn’s ability to develop his own vision for the DCU.

Moreover, there’s the question of whether Robert Pattinson would agree to appear in multiple DCU projects. Additionally, The Brave and the Bold is set to be directed by Andy Muschietti, so altering Reeves’ vision doesn’t seem logical.

While Zaslav is pushing for more Batman, it’s unlikely WB will make a decision that could jeopardize the DCU’s future, especially after past mistakes with the DCEU. But, stranger things have happened. We’ll see—stay tuned for more updates!
