‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ was released almost 2 years ago, and this was the character’s last appearance in the MCU with some pretty grave implications. An alternative version of Strange appeared in ‘What If…?’ Season 3 but this character ended in tragedy and I doubt we will see this variant in the upcoming installments.

‘Doctor Strange 3’ hasn’t been officially announced by Marvel Studios yet, but at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed that there’s plenty of room in the release schedule for projects that would be set in Phase 6. I’m not sure how much of that is true considering that MCU has gone down a different path in the last several months. Faced with tremendous box-office losses, MCU will bet on what works and there are rumors going around that we can expect more animated projects and more street-level stories as they are figuring out what to do with Multiverse stuff.

Now Alex Perez, notable insider and leaker has presented us with what he has heard regarding Strange’s overall character development in the upcoming installments and what kind of twists his story might take:

One of the ideas I had heard regarding Doctor Strange’s role in the Multiverse Saga overall was to have his character struggle with the moralities of what he believes is right and wrong. In most universes, we’ve seen Stephen Strange do something that he believes is right and is ultimately for the greater good, when in reality, it backfires and ends up causing more harm than good.

Not only that, but it paints Strange as the antagonist in these cases. Such is the case with Strange Supreme from What If…?, Defender Strange, Doctor Strange from Earth-838, and Sinister Strange. When presented with the fact that in most universes, Strange’s actions often cause more harm than good, Strange-616 will struggle with the sense of whether what he is doing is right, ultimately coming to terms with the decision that perhaps simply removing himself from the situation and letting someone else handle it is the best course of action.

Of course, it’s all a setup for Strange to step up to the plate and become one of the most important heroes of the Multiverse Saga and I don’t expect them to change much of the story since this is supposed to take place during a couple of projects.

The last we’ve heard regarding a potential Doctor Strange solo project was that ‘Doctor Strange’ threequel will serve as the direct prelude to upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. The movie will reportedly not only depict Strange on another journey throughout the Multiverse but also present him as one of the Multiverse’s biggest threats by making him a common denominator. Strange was supposed to be the biggest enemy of Council of Kangs, however now that Kang’s role is trying to be minimized within the MCU due to the Majors fallout, this likely no longer holds any truth to it at all.
