Sadie Sink Just Teased a ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Detail Fans Won’t Understand Until They See the Movie

Marvel has built entire marketing campaigns around secrecy before, but rarely has one character’s identity been guarded quite as fiercely as Sadie Sink’s mystery role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ Since her casting was confirmed back in March 2025, the studio has managed to keep her character’s name completely under wraps, even as speculation has reached a fever pitch.

That secrecy has made every scrap of footage or commentary involving Sink feel like a genuine event. Fans have spent months dissecting her limited press appearances, hunting for any accidental slip that might finally confirm who she’s playing in Peter Parker’s latest solo outing.

At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Marvel Entertainment leaned into that ongoing mystery with a fresh tease, sharing what the studio itself called a “one-word tease” from Sink herself. Asked to offer a clue about the movie beyond simply saying “Spider-Man,” Sink paused for a moment before delivering her answer.

Speaking in an interview with HuffPost UK, Sink offered up her cryptic response: “OK. Um… scrunchie.” She then nodded knowingly, offering no further explanation and leaving fans to interpret the strange hint however they could.

The single-word tease follows an earlier clip Marvel released showing Sink’s character on screen for the first time, sitting on a bench and beginning to speak before censor bars and bleeps abruptly cut off her dialogue. All viewers were able to make out clearly was the opening of her sentence, “What would you do if…”, before the line was deliberately obscured.

That combination of a redacted clip and a nonsensical one-word clue has only intensified the internet’s obsession with figuring out exactly who Sink is playing. The leading fan theory continues to center on Jean Grey, the X-Men telepath, a theory fueled partly by Sink’s barely-moving mouth in the clip, which some have interpreted as a hint that her dialogue is being communicated telepathically rather than spoken aloud.

Marvel has never officially confirmed Sink’s role, despite mounting evidence pointing toward the mutant hero. Reports have also suggested her character shares a connection with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and is capable of controlling other people’s minds during key sequences in the film, including a widely rumored tank chase scene.

Adding another layer to the mystery, the secret may have already slipped out entirely. During a red carpet interview at the same Los Angeles premiere, musician Steve Lacy appeared to accidentally reveal details about Sink’s character while answering an unrelated question, sending the clip circulating widely across social media just as Marvel continued publicly insisting the role remain a secret.

With ‘Brand New Day’ now playing in theaters, audiences finally have the chance to see for themselves whether the scrunchie comment holds any actual significance, or whether it was simply Sink having a bit of fun at the expense of fans desperate for answers. Either way, it’s clear Marvel has successfully turned one supporting role into one of the biggest ongoing mysteries of the film’s entire rollout.
