The announcement of God of War: Laufey has already sparked plenty of discussion online, and not all of it has been positive. While some players are excited to see a new side of the God of War universe, others were disappointed to learn that the game will not focus on Kratos.

The debate became even bigger after Domino’s Pizza UK joined the conversation with a post that quickly caught attention on social media.

Shortly after the game was revealed, the official Domino’s Pizza UK account shared its thoughts on the announcement. The company compared the absence of Kratos to ordering a pizza without one of its main ingredients. “God of War game with no Kratos = Pepperoni Passion with no pepperoni,” the account wrote.

The post immediately attracted thousands of reactions. While some users found the joke amusing, many others criticized Domino’s for taking a shot at the game. Several replies argued that a story can still work without its most famous character, while others used the opportunity to criticize Domino’s itself. Some users brought up complaints about the company’s reputation, while others mocked the quality of its pizza.

Santa Monica Studio eventually noticed the post and decided to respond. Rather than writing a lengthy statement, the developer replied with a short comment that quickly spread across social media. “ok thanks for the feedback, dominos pizza corporate account,” the studio wrote.

The response was widely shared by fans and became one of the most talked-about moments surrounding the game’s announcement. Domino’s Pizza UK is known for posting sarcastic and attention-grabbing content online, and many users saw the original joke as another example of that strategy. In this case, however, the post led to a larger debate about the game itself.

God of War: Laufey will tell the story of Fey, also known as Laufey, the wife of Kratos and the mother of Atreus. The story takes place alongside the events of 2018’s God of War and explores parts of the world and mythology that players have not seen before.

The game follows Laufey after her death as she exists within the Everywhen, an afterlife connected to the gods. One of the more unusual details revealed about the game is the inclusion of a gelatinous cube character voiced by actor Jack Quaid.

Despite the new setting and characters, many fans were not particularly happy with the announcement. Across social media platforms, some players questioned why Santa Monica Studio would release a God of War game without Kratos as the main character. Others argued that the series is closely tied to Kratos and that removing him from the spotlight makes the project less interesting.

At the same time, there are also fans who support the decision. They believe the franchise has grown large enough to tell stories from different perspectives and explore characters who have not received much attention in previous games.

Santa Monica Studio appears committed to that approach. The developer has said it wanted to try something different by focusing on Laufey’s story instead of another Kratos adventure. While the studio has not ruled out returning to a Kratos-centered game in the future, God of War: Laufey is being positioned as a chance to expand the series in a new direction.

Whether fans ultimately embrace that direction remains to be seen, but one thing is already clear: the game’s reveal has generated plenty of discussion, and even Domino’s somehow ended up becoming part of the conversation.
