Sigourney Weaver recently hinted at a possible return to the Alien universe during a reunion panel at New York Comic Con.

The event brought together Weaver and her 1979 co-star Veronica Cartwright to celebrate the long-lasting franchise.

Weaver revealed that producer Walter Hill had written 50 pages exploring where Ellen Ripley might be today. She called the pages “quite extraordinary” and said they reflect a society that sidelines someone who has tried to help humanity.

“I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox or Disney… I’ve never felt the need [to reprise the role]. I was always like, ‘Let her rest, let her recover.’ What Walter has written seems so true to me… I think it’s a very strong first 50 pages. I’m thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story would be,” Weaver said.

Cartwright, who played Joan Lambert in the original 1979 film, joined Weaver on stage and shared her memories of the movie’s early reception.

“They didn’t give [the cast] a premiere,” Cartwright said. “I went down to the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and saw it by myself, and when the chestburster [scene] happened, people were getting up out of their seats and leaving the theater. Nobody had seen anything like it. It was really super impressive.”

The Alien franchise has continued to thrive in recent years. Alien Romulus was released in 2024, and Hulu’s Alien: Earth series, created by Noah Hawley, recently finished its first season. Meanwhile, Weaver is preparing for a new adventure in the Star Wars universe with next summer’s The Mandalorian and Grogu.
