Simu Liu Is Married: ‘Shang-Chi’ Star Weds Allison Hsu in an Intimate French Ceremony

Few celebrity love stories have had a setting as consistent as this one. When Simu Liu proposed to Allison Hsu in May 2025, he did it in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower as the backdrop and a surprise video message from Taylor Swift waiting in the wings. It was the kind of proposal that instantly became part of the couple’s story.

That story has now come full circle, with France returning as the backdrop for the next big chapter. The 37-year-old actor, best known for starring in Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ has been busy balancing a Broadway debut, wedding planning and a high-profile Marvel project that arrives in theaters in December.

Now, news of the Simu Liu wedding is out. In an exclusive report, TMZ revealed on October 5 that Liu and Hsu, 30, tied the knot in France over the weekend of October 3. A source also confirmed the news to PEOPLE.

Few details have been shared so far. The ceremony was reportedly intimate and surrounded by loved ones, and official wedding photographs have not been widely released. Neither Liu nor Hsu had publicly shared images from the day at the time of the reports.

There were hints that the wedding was close, though. Hsu shared photos from her bachelorette party in Tulum, Mexico, on September 1, which signaled that the big day was approaching. The timing also lines up neatly with Liu’s busy schedule, since ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens on December 18.

The couple’s romance began in late 2022. Hsu went Instagram official with a photo of herself and Liu on November 20, 2022, and they made their red carpet debut at the premiere of ‘Violent Night’ the following month. Hsu is the vice president of digital marketing at Interscope Records and was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 music list in 2022.

Their relationship stayed fairly low-key but affectionate in public. Liu has described Hsu in past interviews as someone who changed his life, and as tough in the best way. By the time the engagement arrived, the two had been together for nearly 3 years.

The proposal on May 11, 2025, has become one of the most talked-about celebrity engagements of the past couple of years. Liu announced it on Instagram with photos from a Paris balcony, while Hsu showed off a diamond ring and captioned her post with the words “Us forever.”

The extra touch came from Swift. Liu explained on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ that Hsu grew up a Swiftie, and that Swift’s music had been part of their relationship from the start. He reached out through the singer’s publicist asking for a short congratulatory video, and she sent one 2 days later. Liu has called it the cherry on top of the proposal.

Liu gave glimpses of the planning process along the way. He told PEOPLE in February that wedding planning was a relatively pain-free and joyous process, apart from sticker shock over the prices, and that he and Hsu agreed on one non-negotiable must-have. Reports suggest that was music, which would make sense for a bride who works in the industry.

Hsu also looked ahead on Instagram in December, calling the proposal day the best of 2025 and saying the best year was still to come. Liu joked in the comments that it had been a pretty stressful day for him.

Now the focus shifts to a busy stretch for the newlyweds. Liu is part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ensemble, and a ‘Shang-Chi’ sequel is also in the works. Whether the couple shares wedding photos soon or keeps the day private remains to be seen.
