Sofía Vergara’s Ultimate Dilemma: She Can’t Decide Who to Take to the World Cup
Sofía Vergara is getting ready for a busy and emotional World Cup season, with plans to attend multiple matches and spend much of the tournament surrounded by family.
The actress says she will be present at key games, including the first U.S.-hosted match in Los Angeles on June 12 and the final near New York on July 19. She also expects to attend a few other matches in between, although balancing tickets among her large family has already become complicated.
Vergara explained the challenge of deciding who gets to go with her, saying: “It’s been kind of like a little bit of a struggle to pick who deserves to go to the World Cup, but it’s all been fun!”
She added that the World Cup is not just about football for her, but also about family time. Watching matches together means sharing food, conversation, and a lot of emotion. She described it as a mix of joy and chaos, with everyone coming together in one place to experience the games.
Vergara, who was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, is especially excited to support her home country during the tournament. She has long been vocal about her pride in Colombia and often uses major events like the World Cup to bring her family together.
Beyond attending games, Vergara also shared that she has been in touch with singer Shakira, who is set to perform at the World Cup Final Halftime Show. The two Colombian stars recently exchanged messages.
Vergara said: “I don’t even want to name-drop, but she texted me yesterday. She asked me if I was going to be in L.A. for the games. And so I’m very excited because I’m sure she’s going to give a hell of a show like she always does. And she’s very excited to do it. It’s going to be amazing. For sure I’m going to watch her.”
She also revealed that her home viewing plans are just as important as stadium appearances. When she watches matches at home, she likes to keep things simple and social, focusing on food, music, and family time. She said these gatherings often become lively and emotional experiences.
Vergara described her home match days by saying: “When you’re together, that’s when you really get to enjoy each other and eat, and fight, and complain and it’s fun.”
In addition to football, Vergara also uses family gatherings as an opportunity to talk about health awareness. She has been involved in campaigns encouraging people to pay attention to conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, which have affected members of her own family.
She referenced her “Detect the SOS” campaign, explaining that she hopes conversations sparked during shared TV moments can help people take health issues more seriously. She believes that seeing health messages during everyday entertainment can encourage people to ask questions and take action.
Vergara said that talking about health with relatives is not always easy, but shared experiences like watching sports or TV can open the door. She hopes that even casual discussions during the World Cup can help families become more aware of important medical checks and early detection.
With matches, travel, family gatherings, and celebrity performances all lined up, Vergara says she is simply looking forward to the atmosphere. She described the upcoming month as a rare chance for people to come together, celebrate, and enjoy something global.
As she put it, the World Cup is more than just sport. It is a moment that brings families, friends, and entire countries together in one shared experience.
