Sony Announces Release Date for ‘Venom 3’, Delays ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’

Sony Pictures is, after Disney, the second most-prolific studio when it comes to developing Marvel content. Before 2019, there were Disney, Fox, and Sony, but then Disney purchased Fox, and although Disney and Sony made a deal that brought Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony still believes that they can use their rights for Marvel characters to build some cinematic universe featuring villains and anti-heroes associated with Spider-Man.

The first such movie was 2018’s ‘Venom,’ starring Tom Hardy, which received negative reviews from critics, but the fans received it rather favorably. After that, the franchise spawned ‘Venom: Let there be Carnage,’ which received mixed reviews but was still commercially successful, and ‘Morbius,’ which was a critical and commercial failure. Still, Sony doesn’t plan to stop, as we’re set to get ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and ‘Madame Web’ next year.

‘Venom 3’ release date has been announced! ‘Kraven the Hunter’ delayed to 2024!

‘Kraven the Hunter’ was supposed to come out this October. However, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which disallows actors to promote movies and attend red-carpet events, the movie was delayed to August 30, 2024, as Variety reports. ‘Madame Web’ is set to be released on Valentine’s Day 2024, which is only two days earlier than the previous date. The upcoming third installment in the ‘Venom’ saga starring Tom Hardy, ‘Venom 3,’ is now officially set to be released on July 12, 2024!

These aren’t the only movies that Sony delayed. ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ the anticipated third installment of the critically acclaimed ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise, has now been delayed indefinitely. The movie was supposed to release in March 2024, but Sony is reportedly considering several possible release dates, judging how long the strikes in Hollywood will last. Let’s take a look at new release dates again:

  • ‘Madame Web’ – February 14, 2024
  • ‘Venom 3’ – July 12, 2024
  • ‘Kraven the Hunter’ – August 30, 2024
  • ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ – delayed indefinitely

How Did Kraven the Hunter Get His Powers in the Comics?

Unlike their live-action Marvel franchise, which received mostly mixed reviews for now, the ‘Spider-Verse’ is universally loved by fans and critics alike, and we can see that Sony doesn’t want to risk in this case. The good news is that the fans of Kraven the Hunter will still have some content with him this October since he’ll be one of the villains in the forthcoming ‘Spider-Man 2’ video game on PS5

It’s unknown for how long the strikes will last, but unlike ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ which has already wrapped its production, ‘Venom 3’ was in the middle of production when the strike started, and it’s unknown if the movie will indeed be ready before the announced date. Marvel Studios’ ‘Deadpool 3,’ which is currently set to come out in May 2024, is in the same situation.
