Even though we saw the death of Kanan Jarrus in the final season of ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ one of the things that we did see was the growth of the Spectre family. That’s because Hera Syndulla gave birth to the newest member of the Spectres. Of course, we are talking about the young Jacen Syndulla, who was only seen at the end of ‘Rebels’ and after the Rebellion defeated the Empire. So, who is Jacen Syndulla?

Jacen Syndulla is the son of Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla, who were both in love with one another during the events of ‘Rebels.’ That would mean Jacen is a hybrid between a human and a Twi’lek. He was given the call sign “Spectre 7” when he started learning how to pilot alongside his mother.

At this point, we still don’t know a lot about Jacen Syndulla because he was only seen once during the events of the ‘Rebels’ animated series. But there’s a good chance that we are set to see him during the events of the live-action ‘Ahsoka’ series, wherein he should be older than he was at the end of the ‘Rebels’ show. So, let’s look at what we know about Jacen Syndulla.

Kanan Jarrus’ & Hera Syndulla’s son

If there was one thing that was obvious during the events of ‘Star Wars: Rebels,’ it was that Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla had feelings for one another. No one could ever deny that they were a couple, and it was also clear that they were the “parents” of the Spectre family because they were the two most responsible and level-headed adults in that group. That is why they are often called space daddy and space mommy.

But while it may be true that Kanan and Hera were a thing, one of the details that fans were quick to spot was that their relationship was hardly the series’ focus. That’s because they often had to park their relationship. After all, they were fighting a rebellion against the Empire. As such, there was hardly any opportunity for them to actually explore their feelings for one another.

Still, during the events of season 4 of ‘Rebels,’ Kanan’s resolve grew because a part of him might have sensed that the biggest event in his entire life was on its way. Meeting the Force-sensitive Loth-Wolf called Dume allowed him to slowly embrace his destiny and what he needed to do to keep his friends safe. And when the Empire captured Hera on Lothal, things became personal for Kanan.

Kanan, Ezra, and Sabine rescued Hera from the Empire. Hera, because of the fact that she was under the influence of a truth drug, was vocal about her feelings for Kanan while they were escaping the Imperial base. And Kanan was also just as vocal about his feelings for Hera.

Nevertheless, when the Spectres were about to escape on their ship, which was close to a fuel depot, the Empire decided to blast one of the fuel depots to take all of the Spectres out. Kanan decided to use the Force to keep the blast at bay. With his other hand, he used the Force to push the Spectres away as the blast consumed and killed him.

Even though Kanan was now dead, the Spectres’ resolve didn’t die. They ended up defeating the Imperial presence on Lothal. Then, five years after the death of Kanan Jarrus, it was seen in the epilogue of ‘Rebels’ that the relationship between Kanan and Hera bore fruit. Before Kanan’s death, they actually had an intimate moment with one another as Hera became pregnant. And she gave birth to a boy named Jacen Syndulla, who was clearly Kanan Jarrus’ son.

Is Jacen Syndulla canon?

Unlike the children of the Skywalkers before the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm, Jacen Syndulla is actually canon. It might be true that he only appeared in one scene during the ‘Star Wars Rebels epilogue.’ But what needs to be considered is that ‘Rebel’ took place after the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm.

This means that everything in ‘Rebels’ is canon to the overall storyline of Star Wars. This includes Jacen, who hasn’t appeared in any other Star Wars media after debuting in ‘Rebels’ but is probably set to appear in ‘Ahsoka.’ And if he does appear in ‘Ahsoka’ as a live-action character, that would mean that his status as a canon character will be legitimized.

Why is Jacen Syndulla human?

When Jacen Syndulla appeared for the first time, the young boy surprised many fans because he looked human. Of course, the thing that needs to be understood about Jacen is that he is a hybrid between a human and a Twi’lek. We know that Twi’leks, while having human characteristics, don’t look like humans because they have headtails instead of hair and have colored skin.

But Jacen’s characteristics were more human than Twi’lek because he lacked headtails and had human-colored skin. The only thing Twi’lek about him is that he has green features all over his body, including his hair and the tip of his ears. But aside from that, he always looked more human than Twi’lek.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a human-Twi’lek hybrid in Star Wars. During the events of ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars,’ we were introduced to the Lawquanes, a family of farmers composed of a clone deserter named Cut and his wife, Shuu. While Cut was human, Shuu was a Twi’lek. As such, their children had the features of a human and a Twi’lek.

Nevertheless, the fact that Jacen has minimal Twi’lek features may be the result of genetics, as it might be possible that he took after his dad in the looks department but took after his mom in the skills department when it comes to piloting. And it would be interesting to see what the live-action version of Jacen Syndulla would look like, especially when it comes to the fact that he is a hybrid.

How old is Jacen Syndulla in ‘Ahsoka?’

Of course, we aren’t sure whether or not Jacen Syndulla will be in ‘Ahsoka.’ The only thing that we know for sure is that he is actually already older in the events of this series, given the fact that it takes place almost a decade after his father’s death.

Jacen Syndulla was born on 1 BBY, one year before the Battle of Yavin. He was around five years old at the end of ‘Rebels,’ which is 4 ABY. Given that the events of ‘Ahsoka’ take place right around five years after the fall of the Empire, that would mean that Jacen should be somewhere around ten years old already.
