Synopsis for Chad Stahelski’s ‘Highlander’ Remake Reportedly Revealed
Henry Cavill is set to take on the lead role in the upcoming Highlander reboot, with Russell Crowe joining the cast as mentor Ramirez.
Karen Gillan has been cast as Heather, and WWE superstar Drew McIntyre will play Connor MacLeod’s brother, Angus.
The film is being directed by Chad Stahelski, with a screenplay by Mike Finch, and is reported to have a budget of over $100 million. Production is backed by Amazon MGM Studios under the United Artists banner, after they acquired the project in April, with Lionsgate initially developing it.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently revealed the rumored synopsis for the reboot. “Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod (Henry Cavill) lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When the ruthless immortal Kurgan (Dave Bautista) resurfaces, backed by a secret organization bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game — an ancient battle where ‘there can be only one.’”

Connor will be guided by his mentor Ramirez and a mortal ally, archaeologist Kate Bennett (Marisa Abela), as he faces the challenge of confronting his past and rediscovering his purpose. “As immortals clash across time and continents, the fight for the mysterious ‘Prize’ becomes a battle for humanity’s soul,” Richtman added.
Filming for the high-stakes reboot was expected to begin in early 2024, with producers including Joshua Davis, Moritz, Stahelski, and Louise Rosner. Lionsgate had initially planned to present the film to international distributors at the 2023 American Film Market.
The reboot promises a modern take on the classic 1986 Highlander story, blending historical battles with contemporary stakes and introducing new characters alongside familiar ones.
It’s exciting to see Cavill step into MacLeod’s shoes and to have heavyweights like Crowe and Bautista on board. The combination of Stahelski’s action expertise and a large budget could make this one of the most intense Highlander adaptations yet.
