2023 was not a good year for Marvel Studios, low box-office returns started in February with ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ recovered with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and then hit rock bottom with the release of ‘The Marvels’ in November. The movie performed so badly, it’s the lowest-grossing MCU movie to date, and the critical reception was abysmal as well. This prompted even Bob Iger to admit that the studio had somewhat lost its focus and blamed the failure of the movie on not enough execs overseeing the day-to-day operations on set. He promised to focus on quantity over quality in the future.

The movie was mostly criticized for its generic plot, uninspiring villain, and Fury somewhat taking a backseat with a less serious role. It was a half-baked movie, but all three main actresses took the criticism with grace. Now months after the movie was released Teyonah Parris spoke to People, and admitted that she would want people to actually watch the movie before forming opinions about it.

I would hope that people would give it a fair shot by just seeing it or trying it. If you don’t like the first 10, 15 minutes, fair enough. Your time is precious. But we make these films so that it can be an escape from your real world in a moment for levity and joy and fantasticalness. You do not have to like something, but give it a chance by actually seeing it and forming your own opinion. And if you did, then that’s fair. That’s how you feel, and I cannot take that from you.

Teyonah also commented on the critics, firing back that she worked with the most talented crew imaginable and that’s enough of a success for her.

think that you’re going to have people who have something to say about everything. What I try to do is remember the work that I put into it, the heart that I put into it, the crew who’ve given over a year of their lives to make this happen, their excellence, and what it felt like to just be around good people who are super, super talented.

Monica Rambeau debuted as a character back in ‘Captain Marvel’ but it was in ‘WandaVision’ that she got prominent role and her superpowers. If one aspect of the movie could be praised it was her chemistry with co-stars. Considering that Teyonah was part of an extremely important post-credit scene that might be the gateway to introducing X-Men and Binary to the MCU, we can expect to see her in future MCU projects, but Teyonah is not so sure, confirming that she doesn’t know anything officially.

Recently, we’ve covered rumors that Captain Marvel’s focus in the upcoming projects will be on finding more about Quantum Bands and figuring out how to save Monica from Parallel Universe, but they might reunite sooner than expected.
