‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Drops New Footage With Meryl Streep Stealing the Spotlight
Disney gave a new look at the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada during its CinemaCon presentation, and the footage is already getting attention. Anne Hathaway was not there in person, but she appeared in a video message where she spoke about how the original film still connects with audiences even after so many years.
The preview, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, shows Miranda Priestly back in her element. Meryl Streep’s character is again sitting in high-level meetings and dismissing ideas from her team without much patience.
In one moment from the scene, she looks completely unimpressed with what she is hearing and reacts with frustration. At one point, she says, “May my suicide be brief and painless.” The moment highlights that Miranda has not softened at all since audiences last saw her.
The footage also includes a fast sequence of fashion-heavy visuals and new locations, including scenes filmed in Italy. One brief clip shows Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt together on a boat, which feels very different from their earlier life in the fast-paced world of New York publishing.
Returning cast members include Stanley Tucci, while new additions like Lucy Liu and Kenneth Branagh join the story this time. The plot reportedly follows Miranda as she deals with a struggling magazine industry that is no longer as powerful as it once was.
This leads to tension with Emily, who has now become a major executive at a competing fashion company. The two end up in direct conflict as they compete for sponsorships and influence, while Miranda begins to consider stepping away from her role.
Filming took place in New York and Milan, and according to on-set reports, large crowds often gathered during production, showing how much interest the sequel has already generated.
Emily Blunt told Vogue that the reaction to the film has been intense even before its release. She said, “All of this attention and obsession with the quick consumption of this movie before it’s even out … in many ways is emblematic of how our industry and our lives have changed.”
Meryl Streep also reflected on returning to familiar filming locations. She said, “It felt jubilant when I first got out on Sixth Avenue, where we filmed 20 years ago, and nobody was interested. I got changed, got out of my camper, and just heard this roar!”
The sequel is set for release on May 1, marking twenty years since the original film premiered. The early footage suggests a return to the sharp tone and high-pressure world that made the first movie a long-running favorite.
